Richard Sorensen has been appointed as General Manager at The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort
The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort brings a seasoned hospitality executive with over 30 years of luxury hospitality experience to lead the oceanfront resort as General Manager. Throughout his career at internationally renowned luxury properties, Richard Sorensen has a proven track record of delivering exceptional guest experiences, strengthening operations and cultivating high-performing teams, including at Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond properties around the world. Sorensen’s approach combines the discipline of international luxury hospitality with warm, personal service. At Punta Mita, his priorities include developing the resort’s team, strengthening guest relationships and ensuring that the attention to detail associated with The St. Regis is felt throughout each stay.
His career includes 13 years with Four Seasons and leadership positions with The Peninsula Hotels in New York, Chicago and Tokyo. In senior hotel management roles in New York and Los Cabos, he led teams that achieved each property’s first Forbes Five-Star recognition.
Most recently, Sorensen served as general manager of a luxury beach resort in Encinitas, California, following senior leadership roles at distinguished properties in Los Cabos. Those assignments brought together experience in international city hotels and Mexican coastal resorts, serving guests with high expectations for both discretion and personalized attention.
His connection to Punta Mita began well before his appointment. An avid surfer, Sorensen first visited the destination years before The St. Regis resort was built. He speaks English and Spanish, and his interests in fitness, wellness and the ocean have continued alongside his hospitality career.
As General Manager, Sorensen will oversee all resort operations, including accommodations, dining, wellness and the signature St. Regis Butler Service. His emphasis will be on connecting those experiences through thoughtful preparation, personal recognition and a team empowered to respond to individual guest needs.
