The developer of the Dubai Pearl mixed-use project is in talks with the Formula One racing group McLaren to brand a hotel and homes on the site. Abdul Majeed Ismail al Fahim, the chairman of Pearl Dubai, which is developing the Dh15 billion (US$4.08bn) project, said the initial terms of the deal had been agreed, although a contract had not been signed. The alliance would be announced when “the time is right”, he added. The proposed venture would follow a similar deal struck earlier this year with MGM Mirage, the Las Vegas leisure operator.

Thai luxury hotel chain Dusit International has announced further expansion of its regional portfolio of properties at Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. Boasting a total of six hotels and residences in the Middle East either fully operational or under construction, Dusit has unveiled two additional properties – Dusit Princess City Centre Dubai and Dusit Dilmunia on Bahrain Health Island. “Our regional strategic plan is beginning to unfold,” said Octavio Gamarra, Senior Vice President of Dusit International. “Thai culture in general is increasingly popular throughout the Middle East. Jumeirah remains optimistic about plans to have 60 hotels and 150 branded restaurants under management or development by 2012, according to the executive chairman of the group. Jumeirah already has 10 hotels in Dubai and others in London and New York. Currently, the group has 14 hotels under construction from Shanghai to Argentina, including three hotels in Aqaba, Jordan. The company is also looking to other locations such as the Maldives, Kuwait and Thailand.
