Holiday Inn ups its game with new luxury development in Berlin city centre

A new development for one of the world's largest hotel chains, the HOLIDAY INN, is in the pre-opening stages in the German capital, Berlin. The project is in the pre-opening stages, with the opening date set for March 2017. The 4-star development will have 186 rooms and be located in one of Berlin's most iconic squares, Alexanderplatz. The hotel is a move up for the brand, which often lies at the more economic end of the spectrum. The HOLIDAY INN Express Alexanderplatz is to be a luxury upscale development, for business and conference purposes, in the heart of the city.

The new-build hotel is part of the brand's Express chain, which caters for business travelers, providing them with all the comfort and amenities they require for short-stay business trips. This arm of the HOLIDAY INN group has conference and meeting facilities, along with fitness centres, indoor pools and hot tubs, allowing the guests ample opportunity to wind down and relax after a hard day's work. The development will be located in Alexanderplatz in Berlin's Mitte district opposite the Dutch embassy. It will be similar in appearance to many of the buildings common to that area, and will respect the scale and style of this important zone in the middle of Berlin. The ground floor will likely have some commercial units to tie into its commercial location, while the 7 floors above will hold the guest rooms, conference and leisure facilities. The top two floors taper into a zinc-clad roof structure to align with the typical roofscapes of the area. Local firm UBM Development is responsible for the interior design, while WEP Effinger Partner Architekten are the architects for the project.
