Kingsgate Hotel Abu Dhabi, part of the Millennium & Copthorne hotel group, has appointed Mashhour Al Refai as its new general manager. Al Refai brings with him more than 19 years of experience in the industry. “I think there is huge potential both for the brand and for the hotel. Ruprecht Schmitz has been appointed as general manager of Millennium Hotel Abu Dhabi, taking over from Moine Kandil who has been promoted to director of operations for MEA at Millannium and Copthorne Hotels & Resorts. German-born Schmitz has worked for Millennium & Copthorne Hotels for the past 10 years in Europe and Asia, most recently in Singapore as the general manager of the 656-room, five-star Orchard Hotel Singapore. With more than 20 years of international experience in the hospitality industry, trilingual Schmitz has worked in management positions with various international chains in Europe and joined Millennium Hotel Paris Opera in 1999. Trained in hotel management in Germany and with a business economics educational background, Schmitz has a wealth of experience in his capacity.

His most recent positions within IHG were hotel manager at InterContinental Dubai Festival City from 2007, and general manager of Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi - Yas Island and Staybridge Suites Abu Dhabi - Yas Island from 2009, playing an intrinsic role in the opening, operations and management of all three of these landmark UAE hotels.

Marriott International announced today that it has signed agreements with Real Estate Group LLC, a subsidiary of Bloom Properties, to manage two properties in Abu Dhabi, UAE. They will be part of Bloom Central, a mixed-use development including 16,200 square meters of office and residential space on Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum St. (Airport Road), one of Abu Dhabi's main access roads to the city's central business district. The site is a 20-minute drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The hotel's general manager, Hans Olbertz, was quoted in local newspapers Thursday as saying the 43-foot (13-meter) faux fir has 131 ornaments that include gold and precious stones including diamonds and sapphires. The US$11 million symbol of the season has become the latest extravagance at the Emirates Palace hotel, which boasts its own marina, heliport and a vending machine that pops out small gold bars.
