Al Refai brings with him more than 19 years of experience in the industry. “I think there is huge potential both for the brand and for the hotel. Wolfgang Maier has been appointed as the General Manager of the Hilton Abu Dhabi, bringing with a wealth of 40 years Hilton experience. With an international career spanning 40 years at Hilton, Maier has extensive hotel management experience in Europe, Australia, Philippines, China and the Middle East. Prior to taking on his new role at Hilton Abu Dhabi, he held the position of Cluster General Manager at the Jeddah Hilton and Qasr Al Sharq in Saudi Arabia.

Ruprecht Schmitz has been appointed as General Manager at Millennium Hotel

Ruprecht Schmitz has been appointed as general manager of Millennium Hotel Abu Dhabi, taking over from Moine Kandil who has been promoted to director of operations for MEA at Millannium and Copthorne Hotels & Resorts. German-born Schmitz has worked for Millennium & Copthorne Hotels for the past 10 years in Europe and Asia, most recently in Singapore as the general manager of the 656-room, five-star Orchard Hotel Singapore. With more than 20 years of international experience in the hospitality industry, trilingual Schmitz has worked in management positions with various international chains in Europe and joined Millennium Hotel Paris Opera in 1999. Trained in hotel management in Germany and with a business economics educational background, Schmitz has a wealth of experience in his capacity.

Perrot Thierry has been appointed as General Manager at InterContinental Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites Abu Dhabi Yas Island

France-born Perrot has more than 30 years’ industry experience, having joined InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in 1981. “I am very excited about embarking on a new journey in a new country and leading such a passionate team. With two great products such as Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites, we are really looking forward to contributing to the future development and success of Yas Island,” Perrot said. He has held managerial roles around the globe, including in Switzerland, the UK, Africa, France, Indonesia, South Korea and Egypt. Perrot’s most recent role was in Egypt as area general manager for IHG Citystars and general manager for InterContinental Cairo Citystars.

Dieter Franke has been named General Manager at Intercontinental Abu Dhabi

Franke brings with him over 24 years experience in the hospitality industry and will play a vital role in maintaining the hotel’s position as an iconic symbol of Emirati heritage, within the capital, and its reputation for personalised service and practical luxury tailored for today’s affluent travellers. Born in Germany, Franke’s hospitality career began with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in 1987, were he has held a number of managerial positions across all key hotel functions in Europe, America, the Mediterranean and the Middle East since then. His most recent positions within IHG were hotel manager at InterContinental Dubai Festival City from 2007, and general manager of Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi - Yas Island and Staybridge Suites Abu Dhabi - Yas Island from 2009, playing an intrinsic role in the opening, operations and management of all three of these landmark UAE hotels.

Patrick Fournes has been appointed as Executive Chef at InterContinental Hotel Abu Dhabi
