A Kuwaiti-owned company is planning to roll out a global expansion of the Yotel "pod" hotels over the next five years. The announcement comes as the industry picks up worldwide and the company readies to open its US$300 million (Dh1.1 billion) Yotel property in New York's Times Square next year. IFA Hotels and Resorts, which is the majority investor in Yotel, says the brand is looking at launching between about 30 and 40 of the hotels over the next five years.

Subsequently, John moved to La Residencia Hotel in Mallorca as Director and General Manager, orchestrating the successful transfer of ownership from Sir Richard Branson to Orient Express Hotels. During his tenure at La Residencia, John oversaw a series of major refurbishments and won annual recognition for the hotel in Condé Nast Traveller’s UK magazine as well as ensuring a place on the gold list in Travel & Leisure magazine’s top 500.

Deloitte, the business advisory firm, confirms that Abu Dhabi’s hospitality industry received a welcome boost when hosting the UAE’s (United Arab Emirates) first Formula One Grand Prix last weekend. Revenue per available room (revPAR) growth, one of the hotel industry’s key performance indicators, peaked on Friday 30th October up 97.6% according to daily STR Global data. However, occupancy and average room rates hit the highest point during the 3-day event on Saturday the 31 October, at an astonishing 97.5% and US$606 respectively.

Abu Dhabi has cut its target to more than double the number of hotel guests staying in the emirates by 2012 due to the impact of the global economic downturn, the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) said on Monday. Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon al-Nahyan said the authority has reduced its forecast by 15 percent to 2.3 million guests annually by 2012, down from 2.7 million guests, in a sign of how the downturn is hitting the emirate's economy.
