Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels cooperates with ITB BookAwards

In the future, ITB Berlin will award the ITB BookAwards in cooperation with Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels (the German Publishers and Booksellers Association). This new concept means the travel publication awards will receive valuable exposure through marketing and communications support. For example, they will become part of the Börsenverein book marketing campaign entitled 'JETZT EIN BUCH!'. Furthermore, two representatives of the book industry have agreed to act as patrons of the awards: Lothar Wekel from the publisher Verlagshaus Römerweg and Martin Riethmüller from the RavensBuch bookstore. A new category has been established under the heading of the ITB BookAwards: the 'Frankfurt Book Fair Guest of Honour'. This award will be presented by the jury of the ITB BookAwards at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2018.

Gordon Debus has been appointed as General Manager at Hotel de Rome, a Rocco Forte Hotel

As of August, Gordon Debus will be taking over management of Hotel de Rome, a Rocco Forte Hotel located on Bebelplatz, Berlin. Sir Rocco is delighted to have recruited the experienced Gordon Debus as Peter Kienast’s successor. Debus is a natural born host with experience in some of the world’s most famous establishments and has a long track record of professional success on the international stage. Born in North Rhein-Westfalia, Debus began his career with an apprenticeship as a chef at the Breidenbacher Hof in Düsseldorf. He has since held positions at Mandarin Oriental in New York, London, Hawaii and finally in Munich, where he acted as Director of Food & Beverage. Keeping this title, he started at the Ritz Carlton in Wolfsburg, where he later advanced to Director of Operations and assumed responsibility for the smooth running of day-to-day operations. Most recently, he has worked as the hotel manager of the A-ROSA Sylt since 2011, successfully establishing the resort together with his team of 160 employees. Debus is proud owner of the title “Hotelier Of The Year 2016” awarded by “Der große Restaurant & Hotel Guide.”

Meeting of the digital travel industry: 8th VIR Online Innovation Days at the Marshall Haus at Messe Berlin

How will artificial intelligence change life in the future and in particular how will it affect the tourism industry? That was the topic discussed by speakers and guests attending this year's VIR Online Innovation Days, which took place on 21 and 22 June 2017 at the Marshall Haus on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. ITB Berlin was the co-host and partner of this event at which the speakers focused on the use of and future of artificial intelligence in the travel industry. Thus, metasearch engines for booking flights use chatbots to communicate with their customers via Skype and Facebook Messenger, and in the sports industry electronic pulses are now being used to correct runners' foot strike.

Number Of Tourists In Berlin Up, Overnight Stays Downs | tourism-review.com

The number of tourists visiting the German capital has increased by three percent in the first quarter of 2017. At the same time, the number of overnight stays has decreased. The neighbor city of Potsdam feels the positive impact of Berlin’s tourism boom.

In the first three months of 2017, Berlin accommodation providers reported more arriving guests than in the same period last year.

The Berlin-Brandenburg Statistical Office reported that the number of tourist arrivals rose by 3 percent to approximately 2.7 million. On the other hand, the number of overnight stays fell by 0.3 percent to 6.3 million. This includes 2.8 million overnight stays by foreign guests. The data represent an increase of 0.5 percent compared to the previous year. The average length of stays is 2.3 days.
