PolyU to host HONG KONG 2016: 2nd Global Tourism & Hospitality Conference and 15th Asia Pacific Forum for Graduate Students Research in Tourism

Fifty-three undergraduate students from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) form an organising committee and run HONG KONG 2016: 2nd Global Tourism & Hospitality Conference (GTHC) and 15th Asia Pacific Forum (APF) for Graduate Students Research in Tourism which will be held at Hotel ICON, Hong Kong, on 16-18 May 2016.

Professor Jeannie Cho Lee, Professor of Practice (Wine) of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Master of Wine (MW), hosted a wine masterclass today to introduce to participants the wines of the world. The masterclass was designed for those who would be interested to find out what the SHTM's Master of Science (MSc) in International Wine Management programme has to offer in terms of advanced knowledge and career prospects.

Siim Karu has been appointed as Director of Revenue Management at pentahotels

pentahotels expands its leadership team in Asia to the position of Director of Revenue Management. The lifestyle hotel group is responding to the success of the concept and the strongly growing demand in Asia. This newly created position is occupied by an employee from within the company. Siim Karu, Cluster Revenue Manager at the headquarters in Frankfurt, was therefore appointed to Hong Kong. From there, he is responsible for portfolio strategy, pricing and sales channels of the Asian hotels.

PolyU Study Finds Personal Factors Drive Mainland Shoppers Back to Hong Kong

The desire to develop personally, enhance self-esteem and build prestige provide significant ongoing motivation for mainland Chinese to shop in Hong Kong, according to Dr Nelson Tsang, Miss Louisa Lee and Miss Carrie Liu of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in a recently published study. The researchers suggest that understanding these factors, and related factors that are less affected by increases in the number of trips to Hong Kong, "will help destination marketing organisations and retailers formulate strategies that will suit the needs of mainland Chinese tourists and encourage them to shop more often in Hong Kong and to spend more".

New President for the new Marco Polo Hotels

Marco Polo Hotels has announced the commencement of Dr. Jennifer Cronin as President for Marco Polo Hotels, succeeding Mr. Eric Waldburger who has retired. In his role as President, Mr. Waldburger led the company for almost four years through one of its most active periods in over a decade with the openings of Marco Polo Ortigas Manila, Marco Polo Changzhou and the launch of the new luxury brand, Niccolo by Marco Polo in Chengdu, China. At the same time, he prepared the three Hong Kong hotels for the challenging years ahead, spear-heading the amalgamation of operations at the three properties.
