Ralph Grippo has been appointed as President at Terranea Resort

Tom Luersen, president of CoralTree Hospitality, today announced that Ralph Grippo has been named president of Terranea Resort, the company's premier oceanfront property in Southern California. Grippo brings more than 30 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry and deep knowledge of the Southern California market to the Terranea team. He is replacing Terri A. Haack, who has been leading Terranea since the property opened in 2009. Haack is shifting roles to focus more on corporate projects with parent company Lowe.

Rodrigo Ibanez has been named Director of Operations at Terranea Resort, A Destination Hotel

Rodrigo Ibanez has been named Director of Operations for the 102-acre oceanfront resort. In his role at Terranea Resort, Ibanez will oversee the Front Office, Guest Services, Housekeeping, Laundry, Loss Prevention, Golf, Spa, and Retail teams. Ibanez was part of Terranea's pre-opening team in 2009, and went on to oversee the Front Office team before eventually taking on the Director of Rooms position. Ibanez returns to the iconic Southern California destination after most recently leading the Rooms division at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas from April 2016-August 2018. He has over 10 years in Rooms Division leadership roles throughout different brands and companies, including the Omni Los Angeles, the Westin Governor Morris in Morristown, NJ, and the Grand Hyatt in New York City. Ibanez received a degree in Hotel Management and Hospitality from the International Buenos Aires Hotel and Restaurant School.

Charlie Lopez-Quintana has been appointed as Executive Director of Resort Operations at Resort by Destination Hotels & Resorts

Lopez-Quintana continues his work at Terranea with more than 20 years of luxury resort leadership experience. Before joining the Terranea team, Lopez-Quintana spent 12 years with Ritz Carlton and opened eight properties internationally. In his new role that started this January, Lopez-Quintana will expand his responsibility of overseeing multiple resort departments, including lodging, golf, retail, spa, recreation, food and beverage, among others.

Terri A. Haack has been named President at Terranea Resort, A Destination Hotel

Haack will continue to be based at Terranea Resort and lead all aspects, including the real estate division, of the 102-acre luxury destination located on the pristine coastline of Rancho Palos Verdes. In addition, she will also continue her integral role within Destination Hotels as a senior executive and a valued shareholder of Lowe Enterprises. In 2007, Haack was named executive vice president and managing director of Terranea to lead development for the $480 million resort. With Haack’s skillful leadership and support of a world-class team, the resort navigated the challenges of the economic downturn to open in 2009 and ultimately achieve unparalleled success. Celebrating its five-year anniversary this year, Terranea has received numerous prestigious awards and accolades, including being named one of the 500 Best Hotels in the World by Travel + Leisure; being recognized on the prestigious Gold List of the World’s Best Hotels and Resorts and as one of the Best Places on Earth by Conde Nast Traveler; and receiving the Platinum Choice Award from Smart Meetings; the Gold Key Award from Meetings and Conventions and the Pinnacle Award from Successful Meetings. Terranea is also recognized as the “Top Employer in Los Angeles County,” from Los Angeles News Group, an award that Haack cherishes as it relates to the culture and environment that she and Lowe Enterprises and Destination Hotels have created for the more than 1,250 associates at Terranea. Haack has also been the architect of repositioning Terranea within the lifestyle industry, expanding the resort’s brand footprint by building strategic alliances with partners such as Lexus, University of Southern California and Fox Sports, TOMS, ONEHOPE, and Trump National Golf Club. She was instrumental in guiding the resort to being accepted into the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts and Virtuoso Travel Network. In addition to the resort’s national acclaim over the past five years, Haack plays an instrumental leadership role in serving the community and the industry she loves. Currently, Haack serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA), representing the national resort segment and is the incoming Chairman of the California Hotel & Lodging Association. Additionally, she is a founding board member of the Women In Lodging Executive Council and is the incoming Chairman. Haack is also the 2014 Chairman of the AH&LA Educational Foundation and a member of the Executive Committee of the AH&LA Resort Committee. In her community, she actively contributes her time and energy to a variety of non-profit organizations as well as serving in leadership positions in business and civic clubs and organizations. Haack joined Destination Hotels in 2002, as executive vice president and managing director of Wild Dunes Resort in S.C., where she orchestrated the planning and implementation of a major renovation and expansion that encompassed a $200 million master plan of the resort and core community. Prior to arriving at Wild Dunes, Haack was executive vice president and managing director of Anheuser-Busch, Inc.’s Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, V.A., and served on the board of directors of Preferred Hotels and Resorts Worldwide comprising a prestigious international group of hotel and resort owners and operators. She also repositioned Kingsmill in the marketplace and completed $50 million in master plan improvements. Prior to Kingsmill, Haack spent more than a decade managing hotels and resorts across the country.

Sharon Holtz has been appointed as Spa Director at Terranea Resort, by Destination Hotels & Resorts

Sharon Holtz, appointed to Terranea as the Spa Director, will lead the development of spa programming as well as continue to position The Spa at Terranea as a premier destination resort spa. With more than 20 years of experience in the spa and wellness industry, Sharon spent ten years with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group creating distinctive holistic experiences within their spas. Working throughout the United States, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean, Sharon learned a variety of culturally-inspired healing traditions and brings a global perspective to her role. She also spent time with Starwood Hotels & Resorts as Health Club Manager for the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco and as the Spa Manager at Elbow Beach in Bermuda.

Amy Funke has been appointed as Associate Director of Marketing at Terranea, by Destination Hotels & Resorts

Amy Funke, the newly appointed Associate Director of Marketing, will oversee the strategy for marketing communications and planning to enhance revenue generation at the resort. Prior to joining Terranea, Amy was a Senior Strategist at Allied Integrated Marketing in Los Angeles and served as the Account Director for the GRAMMYS, managing data analysis and strategy across the website, social media and digital marketing in support of the 2014 broadcast. She brings to Terranea more than seven years of experience, specializing in digital marketing and communications.

Bryan Haluza has been appointed as Director of Revenue Optimization at Terranea, by Destination Hotels & Resorts

Bryan Haluza joins Terranea as the Director of Revenue Optimization. With over 25 years of hospitality experience, Bryan will be heading up the strategy and planning to maximize revenue generation at the resort. Bryan’s previous positions include Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in Elbow Beach, Bermuda, The Sagamore Resort in Lake George, New York and Mount Snow Resort Lodging in Mount Snow, Vermont.

Mark Adams has been named Director of Sales at Terranea Resort

Adams previously held several leadership positions with Marriott, most recently as director of group sales at the Anaheim Marriott and prior to this, director of account sales at The Marriott and Renaissance Caribbean and Mexico Resorts Collection. During his career in the sales and hospitality industry, Adams has also served as vice president of sales for the Long Beach Conventions and Visitors Bureau and director of National Accounts for Marriott International Global Sales Organization. He began his career in convention services and worked in a number of positions within the hospitality industry before finding his calling in sales at the Mayflower Renaissance in Washington, D.C. Adams holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Houston. During his highly decorated career with Marriott, Adams was a multiple-winner of the Golden Circle Chairman’s Award, Sales Leadership Award, Sales Recognition Award and Sales Intensity Award. In addition to his professional achievements, Adams is a member of the Southern California Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA). He also devotes time to serving Habitat for Humanity.

Christian Schmidt has been promoted to Director of Food and Beverage and Culinary Operations at Terranea Resort

Executive Chef Christian Schmidt has been named director of food and beverage and culinary operations and will now oversee both front and back of the house food and beverage operations in addition to his role as executive chef and corporate culinary director for Destination Hotels & Resorts. Chef Schmidt has been a leader in America’s dining scene for more than 25 years. He has mentored celebrated chefs such as Michelle Bernstein (Azul, Miami), Jason Weaver (Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas) and Jason Stoops (Mandarin Oriental, DC) and has held culinary positions at acclaimed luxury hotel brands like the Ritz Carlton, Mandarin Oriental and Fairmont Hotels.

Shawn Jervis has been promoted to General Manager at Terranea Resort

As general manager, Jervis will report directly to Haack and will be responsible for all aspects of Terranea’s operations and guest services. Jervis brings more than 20 years of experience in the hotel and hospitality industry to the role. He joined the resort as director of operations and food and beverage, in advance of the $450 million property’s opening in June 2009, and successfully launched and developed the resort’s food and beverage landscape. Prior to his role at Terranea, Jervis spent nine years at the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua in Maui, and has also held leadership positions at prestigious properties such as the Grand Wilea, Maui; The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Dearborn, MI; Adams Mark Hotel, CO; and Renaissance in Washington, DC.
