Hall’s extensive hospitality background has also assisted him in serving as general manager of Chicago City Centre Hotel, Westin Atlanta Airport, and Crowne Plaza’s Atlanta Airport and Atlanta Northwest locations, totaling more than 15 years of experience in the position. Named “Hotelier of the Year” by the Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association in 2001, he has also served on the Board of Directors for both the Chicago and Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureaus. “David has a proven track record in helping properties successfully build a creative and inspirational vision for long-term success,” said Michael J. David Wiener has been appointed as Regional VP of Sles and Marketing (Western Region) at Loews Hotels

In his new role, Wiener will be directly responsible for the revenue management, group business assessment and market positioning for Loews Hotels’ Western Region properties. Based in San Diego at Loews Coronado Bay, Wiener’s additional hotels include Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif., Loews Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Ariz., Loews Lake Las Vegas in Lake Las Vegas, Nev. and Loews Denver Hotel in Denver. Wiener brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience at some of the world’s finest five-star hotels and resorts. His impressive career includes an extensive history with Fairmont Hotels where he served as a regional director of sales and marketing for its Southeast, Mexico, Western U.S. and California regions. He has participated in the transition process for five newly-acquired properties and oversaw post-renovation sales and marketing efforts for countless projects, including an $80 million renovation.

Ken Owens has been appointed as Managing Director at Tapestry Resorts' Travel Escapes Club

Reg MacDonald has been appointed as Director of Nightlife and Entertainment at Sè San Diego Hotel

Reg MacDonald, Sè San Diego Hotel’s new Director of Nightlife and Entertainment, will oversee operations, promotions and management for Siren Pool Bar and UberLounge and the ground floor bar of the hotel. MacDonald has concepted, designed, owned and managed several Los Angeles nightlife venues, including Nacional, Tokio, an Asian fusion style restaurant and nightclub, and Tinto Tapas Espana.

Joe Velasquez has been appointed as Director of Sales and Marketing at Sè San Diego Hotel

Velasquez, a 21-year veteran of the hotel and hospitality industry, will manage all sales and marketing initiatives for the property and will oversee group business reservations for the 20,000 square-feet of event space, including the Grand Ballroom and seven conference rooms. Most recently, Velasquez was Director of Sales and Marketing at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort, where he oversaw marketing, sales and public relations efforts. Previously, he was the Director of Sales at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, AZ, and Director of Sales and Marketing at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort.

Randy Hulce has been named Managing Director for Hotels at Trigild

Before joining Trigild, Hulce was CEO/owner of Executive Guidance Inc., focusing on advising lenders and owners regarding hotel performance in operations efficiency, sales and marketing, revenue management, internet deployment and strategic options for exit or retention strategies. Prior to that, he was vice president/asset management for Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc., a lodging real estate investment trust -- supervising capital investment project management and directing third party management operations for luxury hotels such as Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Embassy Suites, Renaissance and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. He also served as president/CEO of Sunstone Hotel Management Inc., where he helped convert a start-up REIT of eight hotels to a professionally managed company of 70 properties with over 10,000 rooms. In addition, he was senior vice president of operations for La Quinta Inn and Suites, where he was responsible the financial performance of 125 La Quinta Inns & Suite hotels throughout Texas. He was also senior vice president of asset management for Lennar/Lehman Brothers, overseeing an REO portfolio of over 30 deed in lieu managed assets. For 14 years, he worked for Holiday Inn Worldwide in various executive level positions, spearheading the Holiday Inn Express launch.

Hard Rock San Diego faces suit by owners of rooms

Investors who bought condo-hotel rooms at downtown San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel and now claim to have lost millions have sued the developer and operator, saying federal and state laws were broken because the investment contracts were never properly registered. The lawsuit, filed this week by former San Diego City Attorney Michael Aguirre, claims that Hard Rock Hotel principals never filed their offering of investment agreements with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the California Department of Corporations because they wanted to avoid scrutiny of the deal.

When the 210-room Hotel Indigo opens its doors Monday, its corporate owners are hoping guests will be wowed by the ballpark and bay views, hip decor, colorful murals and energy-efficient design. It's even dog-friendly, with plans to begin hosting a “Canine Cocktails” happy hour come September. But all that cutting-edge design and an assortment of intriguing gimmicks may not be enough to overcome an ailing economy that has hit high-end hotels especially hard. San Diego's downtown luxury hotels have acknowledged becoming more aggressive in looking for ways to boost business in the face of declining revenues.
