Red Roof Inn Expands Internationally with First Hotel Scheduled to Open in Brazil in 2015

U.S. economy lodging leader, Red Roof Inn®, meeting high demand for its brand, is expanding, expected to open its first international destination in Brazil. Partnering with respected Brazil-based Nobile Hoteis, Red Roof Franchising, LLC will be working with Nobile to develop 35-40 properties – new builds and conversions - across the country over the next twenty five years. The first property, a conversion of an existing hotel, will open in Brasilia in 2015.

Brazil beckons tourists, but can hotels keep up?

The 2014 World Cup proved a much-needed boost of good publicity for Brazil. The country is currently facing a recession and inflation stands at 6.5 percent. But over the summer, more than 1 million foreign tourists flocked to the South American country to watch their teams compete. Early indicators showed that each of the 12 host cities benefitted from the influx of tourists, and it looks like the party continues for the country's hotel sector–despite broader economic challenges in Brazil.

Gabriela Otto has been named HSMAI Brasil Chapter Managing Director at Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Americas

Otto has more than 20 years of experience in strategic marketing, business management and employee development. Most recently, she was Regional Director of Sales and Revenue Management for Latin America for Sofitel Luxury Hotels. Otto also has worked for Cesar Park, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts and World Hotels. Otto is also a professor of executive education at ESPM and created courses such as Management Strategies and Tourism Luxury and Hotel Revenue Management and Distribution. Otto has been a columnist for hospitality, marketing and revenue management websites and maintains a well-known industry blog.

Hyatt Announces Plans for a Park Hyatt Hotel in Brazil

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announced today that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management services agreement with 5 Star Empreendimentos Imobiliários Ltda for a Park Hyatt hotel in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. Park Hyatt Foz do Iguaçu will become the first Park Hyatt hotel in Brazil and is expected to open in 2017.

Starwood Debuts Sheraton Reserva do Paiva Hotel and Convention Center near Recife, Brazil

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. (NYSE:HOT) announced today the opening of Sheraton Reserva do Paiva Hotel and Convention Center, near Brazil's northeast region of Recife. Sheraton Reserva do Paiva was developed by the Portuguese group Promovalor and Brazilian group Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias under a long-term management contract with Sheraton Hotels & Resorts. It is the first international upper-upscale hotel in Reserva do Paiva, which is located approximately 30 minutes from Recife.

The cost of a hotel stay in one of the Brazilian host cities during the World Cup Period (12th June to 13th July) will be an average of £143, according to data form hotel search website trivago.co.uk. This will increase to an average of £187 on match days. Brasília and Manaus are the two most expensive destinations, making England versus Italy and the play-off for third place two of the most expensive matches for a hotel stay.

Searches increased by an average of 700 per cent during the World Cup period. The largest increase came from Belgium (1456 per cent), while interest from the UK increased by 555 per cent.
