Joseph Chong has been appointed as General Manager at The Peninsula Shanghai

Mr. Joseph Chong joined HSH in 2000 as Director of Rooms at The Peninsula Beijing. In 2005, he was promoted to be Executive Assistant Manager, Rooms and soon after that, he was transferred to The Peninsula Bangkok as Resident Manager. In early 2009, he joined the pre-opening team of The Peninsula Shanghai as Hotel Manager and played an instrumental role in the opening of the hotel in October 2009. From April 2011, he will succeed Mr. Paul Tchen as General Manager of The Peninsula Shanghai.

David Batchelor has been appointed as Managing Director at The Peninsula Shanghai

Mr. David Batchelor joined HSH in 1994 and served as General Manager of The Peninsula Manila from 2001 to 2008. He was General Manager, Operations Planning and Support from 2008 to 2011, based in Hong Kong. On 14 March 2011, he will take on the newly-created position of Managing Director, The Peninsula Shanghai, tasked with overseeing the management of the hotel complex including the shopping arcade, Peninsula Residences and Waitanyuan.

Karina Davies has been appointed as Director, Sales & Marketing at Fairmont Yangcheng Lake

Karina brings a wealth of knowledge, with over 27 years of hospitality experience, to this position, beginning her career in 1984 at The Fairmont Banff Springs. Between 1984 and 2000, she held a series of positions within the company, including Director of Sales & Marketing, The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. In 2000 Karina was appointed Director, Sales & Marketing, The Fairmont Vancouver Airport and held that position until 2003 when she transferred to The Fairmont Waterfront as Director, Sales & Marketing. In 2008 Karina transferred to Fairmont Singapore and Swissotel The Stamford in her most recent position as Director, Sales & Marketing.

Roger Fung has been appointed as Executive Vice President-Operations at Interstate China JV

A long-time hospitality industry veteran, including 27 consecutive years in the People’s Republic of China, Roger Fung is the longest-serving Hong Kong expatriate in the country’s hotel industry. During his distinguished career, he has held positions of increasing responsibility with many of the world’s most well-known and respected brands, including Hilton, Regent, Radisson, Hyatt, Peninsula, New World, Marriott, Mandarin and New Asia (rebranded under IHG), as well as a number of independent hotels. He has served in a variety of positions at the property through international levels. He has opened six, five-star hotels in China, as well as taken over management of numerous existing hotels.

David Kasten has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer at Interstate China JV

David E. Kasten’s diverse hospitality career includes nearly 30 years of progressively responsible experience in locations ranging from Dallas, Texas, to Amsterdam, The Netherlands and Hong Kong, China, directing as many as 150 direct and indirect reports in hotels and international regions. His experience spans full- and select-service hotels in urban, airport, resort and international locations, where he has been deeply involved in turn-around scenarios, openings, acquisitions and growth modes.

Chris van der Baars has been named Chief Operating Officer at Interstate China JV

Interstate Hotels & Resorts, Inc., the United States’ largest independent hotel management company, today announced that Interstate China Hotels & Resorts Company Limited, a joint venture between Interstate Hotels & Resorts, Inc., and Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels Company Limited (“Jin Jiang Hotels”), China’s leading hotel operator and developer, has unveiled its senior leadership team. Van der Baars previously served as vice president, operations and development, of IHR de Mexico, Interstate’s third-party hotel management platform in Mexico. A hospitality industry veteran, he joined Interstate in 2000.
