Further to a difficult first trimester, the French hospitality industry recovered in April. National occupancy progressed by 2% to 6%, as did RevPAR. Average rates were still under pressure, although to a lesser extent than in previous months. Another positive point: this was felt throughout most of the country and not just in a few specific areas. The slight improvement in the economy was behind this albeit fragile growth, which has nonetheless raised hopes for a recovery.

Tourico Holidays, a global leader in wholesale travel brokerage, today announced that it has partnered with Hilton Worldwide to host the first ever Paris TH Live! – an excursion boat dinner cruise on the Seine River, intended to honor Tourico's France-based partners. The cruise, taking place on Tuesday, May 27th at 19:30, is one of 20 partner events Tourico will host around the world, as a part of a year-long celebration of its two decades of global partner success.
European restaurant reservation service LaFourchette — the so-called OpenTable of France — has entered into agreement to be acquired by NASDAQ-listed travel site TripAdvisor, with whom it already had a partnership. Terms of the deal are not being disclosed. However, sources tell TechCrunch that the price is actually ~$140 million (€100 million) in an all cash deal. The company had previously raised around $15 million in VC.

The first trimester 2014 thus finished on a worrying note: rooms revenue in general dropped by 1% to 5% depending on the category. Occupancy continued to drop, while the 3 point rise in VAT could not be passed on to professionals.
It's an old proverb… No man is prophet in his own land. French politicians expound about France's good performances on the global tourism scene, but refrain from giving the country the means to develop further and to renew a supply that continues to shrink as the years go by.
The month of February saw mixed results. At the national level, occupancy and average rates dropped slightly, without, however, entirely collapsing. The Luxury segment was the only one to stay on course, posting positive results. Paris - usually spared from downturns - did not manage to escape during February. Conversely, other destinations benefited from bright spells, giving rise to contrasted results.
