Meliá Hotels International has announced today a new Innside by Meliá hotel in the city of Aachen, 80 kms southwest from Dusseldorf and Koln, close to the Belgium and Dutch borders.

The worldwide tenth largest hotel chain Hyatt Hotel International plans 155 new top hotels with a total of 40,000 rooms. The recently opened largest hotel project is the Hyatt Regency in Dallas/Texas with 1,120 rooms. InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world's largest hotel companies, has signed a franchise agreement with Arcadia Hotelbetriebs GmbH Stuttgart to develop five hotels in Germany and Austria, continuing the growth of its Holiday Inn Express brand. The new agreement with Arcadia is IHG's fifth multi-development agreement with a partner in Germany.
Germany is receiving continuous interest from the international and national hotel investment and lending community, according to an exclusive survey of the major German financial institutions undertaken by global consultancy HVS London. Another hotel project in the North German city: The Hamburg city council is about to sell a heritage-protected building in a top inner city location to the real estate developer GST Service and MHH Hausservice. The so-called "Tax Authority Office Building at the Rödingsmarkt" – a neo-baroque building which was inaugurated in 1907 – will become a five-star hotel. That is the objective of the city council and the investor. Economy hotels in the German cities of Berlin, Frankfurt and Hamburg are showing a stronger recovery than their luxury counterparts with higher occupancies at a lower rate. A new report from global hotel consultancy HVS London compared the performance of Germany's economy and luxury hotels in four key cities, looking at the average occupancy rate of both types of hotel and the rate achieved.

The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) has renewed its contract with Trust International, continuing a partnership that started in 2001. More than 430 of LHW member hotels use Trust's seamless global distribution system (GDS) functionality, call center services, central reservations office (CRO) and the Internet booking engines (IBE).
Pegasus Solutions has named industry veteran Rainer Gruber as senior vice president of client services. In this new role, Gruber will manage a global team serving Pegasus' nearly 100,000 hotel clients to find new ways to drive business, including consultative distribution opportunities, new distribution partners and improved access to corporate travel planners.
Current GM Lars Wagner is transfering to become GM at the Mandarin Oriental, Geneva. Succeeding Mr Wagner in Munch is Wolfgang Greiner who joins Mandarin Oriental, Munich from his position of Area General Manager for three hotels operated by Schloss Fuschl Betriebe GmbH in Salzburg, Austria. A German national, Mr Greiner brings 20 years of international hotel industry experience from his previous posts in locations including Bermuda, Florida and New York. He holds an MBA from HTW Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft in Chur, Switzerland.
This week the hotel operator Foremost Hospitality has announced its plans to commence the construction of a 164 bedroom Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Düsseldorf, together with the project development company Investa. Once open, the Holiday Inn Express Düsseldorf City Centre will be Foremost Hospitality's 11th hotel in Germany. The city centre and main station are located just minutes away from the hotel. The Supervisory Board of Steigenberger Hotels AG has appointed Puneet Chhatwal as new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Management Board. From January 1, 2013 onwards and together with Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Matthias Heck, Chhatwal will hold responsibility for the hotel business based in Frankfurt/Main.
