JW Marriott Hotel – First Hotel in Hong Kong to Open Public Telepresence Studio

The JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong celebrated the opening of its GoThere Virtual Meetings studio with a four-city telepresence event today along with AT&T and Cisco. The public telepresence facility at the JW Marriott is the first to open in Hong Kong and enables people to hold small, virtual meetings with customers and colleagues around the world. The JW Marriott San Francisco, that installed a studio earlier this year, connected live to the event together with Cisco Shanghai and AT&T Malaysia to congratulate the first Marriott Hotel in Asia to the network.

Hotel ICON in Hong Kong: Where students get to play GM | cnngo.com

Hotel ICON will be Hong Kong's first teaching hotel fully owned by Polytechnic University's School of Hotel and Tourism Management. The hotel held it's topping-up ceremony yesterday at its Tsim Sha Tsui East location. The brainchild of the highly-regarded school for hospitality will be used to give students hands-on training in a real hotel environment -- think Jamie Oliver's famous teaching restaurants, called Fifteen, without the reality TV show.

Robert J. Gerber has been appointed as General Manager at Regal Riverside Hotel

Mr. Gerber has over 30 years in the hospitality industry. His first General Manager’s posting in Hong Kong was at the Victoria Hotel in 1985 which he also held the position as Area Director of Operations of New World Hotels. Mr. Gerber has an extensive know-how in Asia Pacific hospitality industry through his distinguished career in General Manager’s position with a number of renowned international brands such as Swiss Grand Hotel in Seoul, Grand Formosa Regent Hotel in Taipei, Manila Hotel in Philippines, Regent Hotel in Ningbo. Prior to joining Regal, Mr. Gerber was the General Manager for the Pre-opening and Grand Opening Project of the New World Hotel, Dalian, China. Mr. Gerber is an active member of the hotel industry and has held in the past the positions of Finance Chairman and Vice Chairman along with Executive Committee Member for the Hong Kong Hotels Association.

PolyU celebrates the topping-out for the Redevelopment of Pak Sui Yuen

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) today (11 March) hailed the topping-out for the redevelopment of its former staff quarters Pak Sui Yuen in Tsimshatsui East. The new premises, which is scheduled for completion in late 2010, will be home to its world-renowned School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) and a unique teaching hotel. With its distinct design and prominent location by the side of Cross-Harbour Tunnel’s Kowloon entrance, the new infrastructure is set to become a new icon in the heart of the city.
