Marco Polo Hotels - Hong Kong has appointed Helen Tan as hotel manager of its three Hong Kong properties: Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel, Prince Hotel and Gateway Hotel. In her new role, Tan will be assisting the general manager in supervising the operations departments of all three properties and managing their day-to-day operations.
Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui, Founder and Honorary Chairman of Dusit International, was bestowed the SHTM Lifetime Achievement Award this year. The award was presented to Thanpuying Chanut, now 97 years old, in Bangkok in February 2018. At a ceremony held in her honour at Hotel ICON on 22 June, Thanpuying Chanut was represented by her son Mr Chanin Donavanik, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Executive Committee, Dusit International.
Tourists who visit their ancestral homelands carry with them personal connections that "influence how they gaze upon its people, culture and landscapes", according to Dr Wei-Jue Huang, Professor Brian King and Dr Wantanee Suntikul of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Through interviews with second-generation Chinese-Americans who recently visited China, the researchers found that instead of searching for the "exotic", as tourists normally do when visiting a foreign country, migrant tourists tend to seek out similarities that help them to feel connected with their families and heritage.

Throughout her distinguished career in luxury hospitality and retail, she has held leadership roles in marketing with Leviev Diamonds and The Ritz-Carlton Hotels. Prior to The Murray, Yo was General Manager of Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design, a non-profit initiative committed to raising the profile of design and culture through creative experiences. As you walk up the staircase in central Hong Kong, a mural of a woman hugging a pillow appears on the adjacent wall, followed by a message reading: "I'm so good at sleeping, I can do it with my eyes closed."This is the approach to SLEEEP, billed as Hong Kong's first licensed capsule hotel open to both men and women, which hopes to become a haven for the city's sleep-deprived.Covering just 367 square feet, it houses eight award-winning capsules, called SLPers, each big enough for one person to sit up or lie down in. The wooden paneled pods have ambient lighting and a felt curtain "door" that closes with magnetic clips. They won a Red Dot Design Award in 2018, and are the brainchild of lifelong friends Alex Kot and Jun Rivers, who were born in Hong Kong.
