Driftwood Capital Acquires Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel in Puerto Rico

Driftwood Capital, a vertically integrated commercial real estate investment, development and lending platform specializing in hospitality, announces that it has acquired the Sheraton Old San Juan, a 240-room hotel and 27,500-square-foot retail complex in the heart of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Driftwood intends to undertake a full-scale renovation of the property and convert it to a Tribute By Marriott - making it the only branded hotel in the historic district. It will be managed by Driftwood Capital's sister company, Driftwood Hospitality Management (DHM), a national hotel operator with over 20 years of expertise.

Sharilyn Toko has been appointed as General Manager at Caribe Hilton

Hilton announces the appointment of Sharilyn Toko as general manager of the 652-room Caribe Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the company's first hotel to open outside of the continental U.S. in 1949 and birthplace of the pina colada. With more than three decades of hospitality experience, Toko joins the Caribe Hilton team following a year of holding a dual role as general manager of Embassy Suites by Hilton San Juan HotelandCasino and The Condado Plaza Hilton, where she took the helm in 2016 to reenergize the team and elevate the guest experience. An award-winning general manager, Toko is a Hilton veteran who joined the company in 1989 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, where she remained until 2000, overseeing the resort's catering and convention services. She then moved to Puerto Rico to take on the role of director of meeting and conference services at the former El Conquistador Resort, where she advanced her career, leading her to oversee the 950-room resort as hotel manager, responsible for not only the hotel, but also its private island, water park, spa, privately owned villas and more. Toko studied Business Administration and Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Gary Russell has been appointed as Wine Director at Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Joining the Reserve from The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes, Gary Russell brings nearly a decade of gourmand and hospitality experience to Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. Russell was first exposed to the romantic and essential relationship between food and wine at K Restaurant and Wine Bar, where the daily menu changes and a vast wine collection allowed him to explore varietals and terroirs like he never had before. Russell is a Certified Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers and is currently studying to become a Master Sommelier.

Juan Peña has been appointed as Chef de Cuisine at Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Hailing from Puerto Rico, Chef Peña has nearly two decades of culinary experience. He began his career at The Culinary Institute of Puerto Rico, while simultaneously honing his skills at The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan. Inspired by the French chefs he learned from while at The Ritz-Carlton, Chef Peña's next role was in Old San Juan to serve as Executive Chef at the elegant French restaurant, Trois Cent Onze, where he remained for over a decade. From there, Chef Peña served as Chef de Cuisine at Fern Restaurant at the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort where he was professionally trained by Jean Georges Vongerichten himself. Elevating his French culinary expertise even further, Chef Peña also worked under Chef Daniel Boulud at Daniel in New York before his most recent position as the Chef de Cuisine at The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta.

ÁLvarez-Díaz & Villalón Selected To Design The First Residence Inn By Marriott In Puerto Rico

Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón (AD&V), a renowned architecture and interior design firm, today announced it has been selected to design the first Residence Inn by Marriott project in Puerto Rico.
