Marriott to Grow Russia and CIS Portfolio by Over 50 Percent to More than 30 Hotels by 2015

Leading global hotel operator Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) is on track to double its portfolio in Europe from 40,000 rooms to 80,000 rooms by 2015. Marriott is fueling much of its growth in Europe with a strong focus on new development in Russia & CIS and today announced it will grow its existing portfolio in the region by more than 50 percent to more than 30 hotels open by 2015.

IHG to Introduce Managed Service Centre for Hotels in Russia and the CIS

IHG has announced plans to establish a managed service centre that will provide support services for its hotels as it grows Russia and the CIS. Once it is open (most likely around March 2013) the Moscow-based centre will enable IHG hotels to access specialised clustered (non-guest facing) services including sales and marketing, finance, IT and human resources.

of 3,500 hotels from luxury to economy covering all brands : Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery, Mercure, Novotel, Suite Novotel, Adagio, ibis, ibis Styles, and ibis budget throughout 92 countries. Russia, The CIS and Georgia Hotel Valuation Index 2012

The hotel markets of Russia, the CIS & Georgia continue their recovery and exhibit a second consecutive year of growth. In this publication, HVS provides a guide though the peaks and troughs of the various markets, giving operators, investors and owners a clearer view of the region from a valuation perspective. Over the last 18-20 months, hotel markets in Russia, the CIS & Georgia have been recovering, with operating results improving from the crash of 2008/09. The initial fast pace of recovery in the first six months of 2011 has since slowed down, as the continuing crisis in Europe affected travel and spending patterns. Nonetheless, values in the region were still able to grow by 8% on average in 2011 and are forecast to grow by 3% in 2012. The region outperformed the European average in 2011, but will likely fall behind in 2012.

Mr. Federer has over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry in senior management positions across North America, Europe, Middle East and Asia. His rich and diverse experience, including more than 10 years of working with Russian and CIS clientele, makes him a knowledgeable expert in the Russian hospitality market. Mr. Federer will succeed Sandeep Walia in this position. A Canadian national, Mr. Federer previously worked as the General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai and prior to that The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain which he opened to widespread acclaim in late 2009, helping to position it as one of the leading desert resorts in the USA. He joined The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. in 2001 as General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Montreal. Mr. Federer later moved on to hold General Manager positions for The Ritz-Carlton hotels in Turkey, Singapore and Ireland. He also held several senior regional positions in a number of luxury and boutique hotels in North America.

Russia Needs to Overcome Regulatory and Bureaucratic Hurdles to Realise Hotel Development Potential

There is enormous potential to develop hotels in Russia, but that potential continues to be hampered by bureaucracy and a regulatory framework that is not conducive to growth. This was the key finding at the Russia round table discussion held at the second annual Hotel Investment Conference held in London last week. The Panel was hosted by Michael O'Hare, Managing Director of Horwath HTL Russia and was joined by Patrick Fitzgibbon, Senior Vice President of Development for Hilton Worldwide (Europe and Africa) and Arlid Hovland, Senior Vice President for Business Development for the Rezidor Hotel Group.
