New landmark hotels being built in the Alps

Davos, Switzerland - 1 November 2013 - A new landmark hotel is arising in Davos in the Alps. The Intercontinental Davos with its spectacular facade and anything but usual form will be opened in December. The landmark hotel offers 216 rooms and suits and already drew attraction during the planning and construction phase of the 790 gold- colored steel elements on the exterior façade. This is one out of 69 partly outstanding hotel construction projects in Switzerland (with 9.392 rooms in total), as TOPHOTELPROJECTS (www.tophotelprojects.com), the leading provider of hotel construction project information announces. In its neighbor country Austria 40 new hotels and resorts with 5.632 rooms in total will be opened in the next years.

Erich Dasen has been appointed as Regional Manager East at Swiss Youth Hostels

er 2013 ist Erich Dasen Bereichsleiter Betriebe Ost bei den Schweizer Jugendherbergen und damit mitverantwortlich für 16 Betriebe in der Nord- und Ostschweiz, im Liechtenstein und in Graubünden. Erich Dasen, diplomierter Hotelier SHV, ist gelernter Koch und Absolvent der Hotelfachschule Lausanne. Während seinem beruflichen Werdegang führte er als Direktor verschiedene Hotels in der Schweiz sowie Hotel Resorts in Kenia. Daneben war der St. Galler als Vizepräsident von hotelleriesuisse Ostschweiz tätig und vertrat diese in der Berufsbildungskommission von hotelleriesuisse. Zuletzt führte Erich Dasen als Direktor das 4- Stern-Hotel Walzenhausen in Walzenhausen (AR).

At the start of the new academic year in September 2013, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) welcomed a total of 394 new students for all courses. This year, almost 990 candidates applied to start the Preparatory Year at EHL. The admission rate was 36%, with 300 students accepted for the September 2013 entry.

US State Senator Marc Pacheco to speak at Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne on Massachusetts's sustainability leadership

Committed to continuing its ambitious development strategy within a sustainable framework, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) welcomes US State Senator Marc Pacheco, chair of the Senate Committee on Global Warming & Climate Change, to learn from Massachusetts's innovative sustainability solutions.For fifteen years, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne has resolutely adopted an environmental approach to the development of its infrastructure. Solar panels, biogas and wind power units are just a few such features of the School. Today, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne is strengthening this responsible framework to support its ambitious development strategy. Panel of leading experts unveiled for the world’s first exclusive luxury hospitality think tank

Luxury Hospitality 2013 has appointed travel journalist and TV presenter Varun Sharma to chair a panel of leading experts from a broad range of disciplines. Organised by the International Herald Tribune (IHT) with the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) , Luxury Hospitality 2013 is the first exclusive global think tank designed for leaders in this field. Taking place at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland on 6th June 2013, the summit will see around 100 senior figures and over 20 guest speakers gather to discuss the evolving interpretations of "luxury" and share case studies to help drive their businesses forward. Set around a series of inspirational talks and thought-provoking interviews, the one-day conference will provide insider's expertise, findings and insightful opinions from around the world. Introducing panellists and moderating Q&A's throughout the day, luxury globetrotter Varun Sharma and Sophie Doran, Editor in Chief at session content partner Luxury Society, will chair five interactive discussions. The first session, focused on the luxury consumer, will set the scene for the conference, with Chairman of Swiss watch brand Hublot divulging similarities in customer behaviour across the retail and hospitality industries. With a closer eye on premium travel, members of yoo hotels, Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild, and IXO Aviation will lead a debate on ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWIs) and how to reach these highly mobile consumers effectively. Turning towards the delivery of the luxury hospitality experience, citizenM Hotels and Kempinski will offer different views on a critical element and the key topic of session two – service, by discussing innovation, technology, and traditional approaches vs digital.The conversation will then continue with session three, focusing on "people" and which skills are most important in today's luxury hospitality team. Led by head of Lausanne Hospitality Consulting SA and the GM at one of the world's leading eco-luxury destinations, Wogan Valley Resort & Spa, the discussion will reveal which qualities should be sought when assembling a successful team. The renowned Beau-Rivage Palace, Lausanne's destination for the world's elite and jet-set for over 150 years, has completed the first phase of a major renovation, unveiling 37 new guestrooms and two luxury suites in the hotel's Palace Wing. With 61 additional guestrooms set to be completed in April 2014, the renovation will cost approximately US$28 million and is being overseen by acclaimed interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon.

Markus Binkert has been appointed as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at SWISS

Markus Binkert (41), currently Head of Sales & Marketing Switzerland, Germany & Austria, has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer of SWISS airlines, starting his new duties on 1 May. Markus Binkert joined SWISS in 2005. After initially serving as Head of Global Key Account & Business Sales Switzerland, he moved in 2008 to head up the Product & Services department, where his achievements included introducing the new SWISS long-haul cabin product. Two years later he was appointed Head of Marketing, in which capacity he was a driving force behind the recent sharpening of the SWISS brand profile. He moved to his present position as Head of Sales & Marketing Switzerland, Germany & Austria at the beginning of this year.

In March 2013, the Swiss Center of Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (OAQ) attested that EHL's Executive MBA in Hospitality Administration met its quality standards. This important recognition reflects the educational commitments of EHL and the HES-SO to providing a world class Executive MBA - Hospitality Administration programme. The Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne announces key appointment for full-time Executive MBA in Hospitality Administration programme

The Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne has announced the appointment of Dr Charles Ray Thomas Jr. as Director of the full-time Executive MBA in Hospitality Administration (EMBA). In his new role, Dr Thomas will oversee all aspects of the EMBA programme. Tailored to both career climbers and switchers in the hospitality sector, Dr Thomas will be tasked to further develop the high quality and the reputation of the programme.Commenting on the appointment, Dr Fabien Fresnel, Dean of Education & Research at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne said: "We are very enthusiastic about the appointment of Charles at the helm of this programme. He is a seasoned professional with a strong operational and academic background on an international scale and brings with him a blend of financial and hospitality expertise. With over 30 years of experience in hospitality, Mr Thomas brings significant skills to the role; he joins the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne from Southwest Airlines, one of the most profitable airline operations in the world where he rose to the position of Director of Financial Analysis. He joined Southwest Airlines in 1987 as a Financial Analyst. Prior to this, he worked for five years as a Certified Public Accountant and partner at Thomas, McBride & Associates.Dr Thomas also taught finance, managerial accounting and accounting for decision making in various MBA and EMBA programmes in the US. Dr Thomas comes from the US where he was awarded a Master of Taxation from Baylor University and then a PhD in finance and accounting from The University of Texas at Arlington.
