Erich Friedl has been named General Manager at The Naka Island Resort & Spa

Friedl brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience to his new position, with several of them spent in Thailand. Most recently as Hotel Manager of The Westin Kuala Lumpur and Director of Food and Beverage at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok before that, Friedl’s initial step towards a hospitality career was a five year apprenticeship in Salzburg, before he switched gears and moved to a Swiss restaurant in Zurich. His passion for the culinary arts peaked when he joined a five star cruise liner where he explored fresh, exotic ingredients. Prior positions include posting at an international hotel in Australia, where he led his culinary team to win the ‘Most Outstanding Three Course Australian Themed Menu’ in the Salon Culinaire in Cairns; Executive Chef at the former Sheraton Sydney Airport and Executive Chef in charge of Food and Beverage at Four Points by Sheraton Darling Harbour.

Alex Gares has been appointed as Executive Chef at Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui

Gares has been working as an Executive Chef for eight years, and has a wealth of experience garnered during stages and stints at countless Michelin-starred restaurants throughout Spain, including the legendary el Bulli, Celler de Can Roca, Mugaritz, and many more besides. He’s also had the opportunity to experience many different elements of hotel food and beverage, managing everything from breakfast orders to food festivals to fine dining, as well as being invited to participate in numerous high-profile culinary events, including most recently catering a cocktail reception for Scuderia Ferrari at the 2011 Singapore Formula 1 race.

Sean Raine has joined The Westin Siray Bay Resort as General Manager

Sean Raine has been appointed general manager of The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Phuket. Raine’s career with Starwood began as financial controller at Sheraton Fiji, after which taking the post as director of finance Asia Pacific in the Starwood Asia Pacific Divisional office. He then joined the opening team at The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa Phuket as hotel manger. The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Phuket opened in August 2010 and is the first Westin resort to open in Thailand.

Austin Robinson has been appointed as General Manager at Nova Hotel & Spa Pattaya, Centara Boutique Collection and Centra Pattaya Resort

Mr. Austin Robinson, an Australian national who has versatile background of experience in the hotel industry as General Manager in many leading hotels in Australia such as Novotel Lake Crackenback Resort and as Director of Sales & Marketing of Couran Cove Island Resort. He also has been Area General Manager for ten hotels in Port Douglas and Magnetic Island.

Robert Murray has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer South East and North East Asia at Accor

Robert Murray, formerly Senior Vice President for Accor Greater China, is appointed to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer for Accor in South East and North East Asia. He will commence this role as soon as Samuel Shih's assumes his new functions. Robert Murray joined Accor in 1993 and has since held various operating positions in Australia, New Zealand and China.

Rami Sayess has been appointed as Regional Vice President and General Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok

Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok is delighted to announce the appointment of Rami Sayess as Regional Vice President and General Manager. From September 2011, Sayess will be based in Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, with regional responsibilities for the additional three Four Seasons properties in Thailand - Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai, Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, and Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui. His career so far has taken him through stints in Germany, Switzerland, London, Dubai, Mauritius, Bahrain, Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan, and most recently Saudi Arabia, where he was General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh at Kingdom Centre.

Simon Dell has been appointed as General Manager at Amari Hua Hin

ONYX Hospitality Group has appointed Mr. Simon Dell as General Manager of its newest resort, Amari Hua Hin, set to open in March 2012. Located in the popular Thai seaside town of Hua Hin, the property is part of an exciting 7.5-acre mixed use development project which includes privately owned condominiums, and will be the 13thAmari property in Thailand for this leading domestic hotel brand. In his new role, Mr. Dell will be overseeing all aspects of the pre-opening period of the hotel, and will take overall responsibility for the smooth running of the hotel after it opens. His primary focus will be to ensure that this new development is able to fully deliver in terms of customer expectation, occupancy rate and revenue generation.
