In his new position, Malliaroudakis will hold responsibility for overseeing Al Ain Rotana’s strategic direction, while consolidating the property’s position as a prominent hospitality destination and a major attraction within the city.
In his role, El Masri will head the sales and marketing departments in developing and implementing strategies to increase hotel revenue and keep pace with the robust competition in Dubai, especially in Downtown area. He is tasked to further ties with the hotel’s key partners, generate business leads and identify new markets for the property. In April, a 10.8 percentage point reduction in occupancy levels to 62.3% had a direct impact on the performance of Amman hotels. The lower demand during the month saw both average room rate (ARR) and revenue per available room (RevPAR) fall by 4.3% and 18.5% respectively to US$154.94 and US$96.48. Hotels were able to offset the decline in room revenue with stronger food and beverage demand, which increased by 19.0% and 4.7%. Hotel profits were impacted by higher operating expenses, falling by 25.1% to US$55.26.

Dubai-based Emaar Properties, which announced its intention to list Emaar Misr, its Egyptian subsidiary on Wednesday, has confirmed that an IPO for its hospitality unit remains on hold. In a statement, the company said: “The timing of the IPO [for Emaar Hospitality Group] will be dependent on the market conditions. We are watching the markets closely and will take a decision to list at the appropriate time.” Emaar launched an $1.6 billion IPO of its malls and retail subsidiary, EMG, on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) in September last year, in what was the GCC’s biggest listing since the financial crisis in 2008.
