Chuck Abbott has been appointed as General Manager at InterContinental San Diego

InterContinental San Diego announced the appointment of Chuck Abbott as General Manager of the luxurious bayfront property, opened in September 2018. With over 35 years of global hospitality experience, Abbott will confidently utilize his extensive leadership expertise to oversee and guide all hotel operations. Abbott joins InterContinental San Diego from Prince Waikiki Hotel in Hawaii, where he most recently served as General Manager during the hotel's multi-million-dollar rebranding and renovation. Previous to his role at Prince Waikiki, Abbott served as South East Asia Vice President for Starwood Hotels & Resorts from 2009 through 2014, where he directed and increased the performance of 31 operating hotels, eight brands, and 21 developments across Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Among his many achievements during his time with Starwood, Abbott has proven extremely effective and successful in increasing property revenues by millions of dollars to reach peak results, all while maintaining and increasing overall guest satisfaction. Abbott's professional history has spanned worldwide, holding high-profile positions such as Vice President of Operations for Sheraton Macao and St. Regis Macao, General Manager & Area Managing Director for St. Regis Hotel in Shanghai, and General Manager of Westin Resort Guam, Westin Kuming, China, and Westin Chosun Beach, Korea. Further exemplifying his exceptional work as an innovative and adaptive industry leader, Abbott was selected as one of the Top Ten Figures in China's Hospitality Industry Awards in 2003 and named one of the Influential Community Leaders in the Pudong New Development Area in 2007. Abbott is a graduate of Michigan State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Hotel Restaurant Management. Dedicated to furthering the education of future young professionals, Abbott was previously an adjunct professor at University of Guam's School of Business & Tourism. Now, Abbott has relocated to San Diego with his wife of 38 years, Hae Hwa, whom he has two children with.
