Highlights include redesigned balcony rooms and suites led by the renowned Summerour Architects and Norris Studio, an expanded lineup of ecology and history-focused programming, and the launch of the Widgeon Oyster—the resort's first signature oyster varietal, cultivated through the same shoreline restoration efforts that have helped revitalize the surrounding Chesapeake ecosystem.
Together, these enhancements blend thoughtful design, environmental stewardship and authentic local storytelling, creating experiences reflective of the resort’s dedication to its guests, heritage and surrounding environment.
Renovated Balcony Rooms and Suites
The resort's most in-demand accommodations—the balcony rooms and suites in the Windsor and Lancaster buildings— have been completely reimagined with a sophisticated coastal palette of warm leather, earthy blues and greens that complements their sweeping waterfront views. Each room features custom furnishings, vintage accents and elevated textiles, including Zak + Fox pillows and British Blanket Company throws.
For families and friends traveling together, the updated layouts now offer seamless connecting-room configurations, allowing guests to create one-, two- or three-bedroom accommodations tailored to their stays. For larger gatherings, the seven-bedroom Windsor House and 11-bedroom Lancaster House provide expansive private retreats ideal for celebrations, reunions and multi-generational travel. Seven king guestrooms in the Main Building have also been enhanced with private terraces and pergolas overlooking the marina.
These latest enhancements build upon the Inn's broader transformation, which has included the refresh of every guestroom, the debut of the Cove Room event venue and a multi-million-dollar shoreline restoration project that has created more than 18,000 square feet of living shoreline and eight thriving oyster reefs.
Introducing the Widgeon Oyster
Nowhere is the Tides Inn's commitment to the Chesapeake Bay more evident than with the debut of the Widgeon Oyster, an exclusive oyster varietal grown near the resort and served only at Tides Inn’s Salt & Meadow restaurant. More than a new menu item, the Widgeon Oyster is a continuation of the journey Tides Inn and resident ecologist Will Smiley are playing in the restoration of Carter's Creek and, ultimately, the Chesapeake Bay. Named after Widgeon grass—one of the first indicators of improving water quality—the Widgeon Oyster reflects the close connection between conservation, cuisine and sense of place that defines the Tides Inn experience.
Celebrating America 250 on the Chesapeake
In honor of America's 250th anniversary, the Tides Inn has introduced a series of experiences celebrating Virginia's maritime heritage, local traditions and enduring communities. The Tides of History Speaker Series, held on select Tuesdays through October, welcomes local historians and experts for conversations exploring topics ranging from Virginia oyster aquaculture to the role of women in the Chesapeake Bay fishing industry. Guests can also join Historic Garden Tours, where Farmer Patrick leads seasonal visits through the resort's demonstration gardens, showcasing heritage crops and agricultural practices that have shaped the region for more than two centuries.
