The Academy was established in 2001 with a small cohort of 15 students; more than 230 students from 60 countries have since graduated. The current graduating cohort of over 50 students takes the number of graduates from The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management to about 300.
Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hospitality company and a member of Dubai Holding, has appointed Chef Gabi (Gabriele) Kurz as the company’s first ‘Resort Wellbeing’ chef responsible for all healthy dining alternatives for guests at Madinat Jumeirah.
Replacing Stephan Schupbach in Madinat Jumeirah is Anne-Marie Houston, now General Manager of Al Qasr and Dar Al Masyaf in Madinat Jumeirah - The Arabian Resort. Joining Jumeirah in 2006 as Director of Food & Beverage for Madinat Jumeirah, British national Anne-Marie brings with her a wealth of experience from working with several hotel companies including The Gleneagles Hotel (Scotland), The Savoy (London), Raffles Brown's Hotel, Boca Raton Resort and Club (Florida) The Sukhothai, Bangkok and The Peninsula Group. In this new role, Anne-Marie has been overseeing the day-to-day operations of the two hotels, along with The Souk and Talise Spa.
Stephan Schupbach was appointed General Manager for Jumeirah Zabeel Saray - a luxury resort inspired by the Golden Age of the Ottoman Empire, located on the Palm Jumeirah island. With over 18 years of international hotel experience, Stephan has a Degree in Industrial Studies from his home town of Aarau, Switzerland.
Newly appointed General Manager of Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Grant Ruddiman joined Jumeirah Group in early 2010, overseeing the pre-opening activities for hotels and resorts in Kuwait and Jordan. An Australian national, he has worked in the luxury hospitality sector in South Africa, Malawi, Germany, Australia, Kuwait and Jordan over the past 27 years, gaining invaluable experience worldwide. He is currently finalising his research towards a Doctorate in Business Administration.
Salim brings with him more than 16 years’ experience in the hospitality industry. Born in Lebanon, Salim’s hospitality career began with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in 1996, were he held a number of managerial positions across all key hotel functions in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Oman, before moving to Dubai, where he was Director of Revenue Management at Dusit Thani Dubai. His most recent position as Group Vice president, Sales &Revenue Management was at HMH- Hospitality Management Holdings corporate headquarters from 2009, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge in revenue management and playing an intrinsic role in the opening, operations and management of the group’s hotels across the Middle East. In addition to his in-depth financial and operational skills, he holds a number of certificates in Management Leadership and Training, as well as boasting language fluency in Arabic, English and French.
French national Maurisseau brings with him almost 16 years of hospitality experience, after successfully managing key positions in the UAE and throughout Belgium, Spain and Singapore.Maurisseau started his career as a Chef de Rang at the Le Meridien Bruxelles in Belgium, where he rapidly progressed through the F&B sector later landing himself the role as food and beverage manager at the The Westin La Quinta in Marbella, Spain. In 2002, he was offered his first assignment in the Middle East as food and beverage manager at the Sands Hotel in Abu Dhabi, before stepping-up to director of food and beverage at the One to One hotel in the capital.
Joining the Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel - Dubai as Executive Assistant – Rooms Division Manager is Fred Selvi, a joint Australian/Turkish national who comes to the UAE from the Rixos Premium Resort in Bodrum, Turkey, where he was assistant general manager. After graduating from RMIT University in Melbourne, where he studied hospitality management and achieved a diploma in hospitality and tourism, Fred began his life in hotels as a bell attendant and doorman at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, quickly progressing to front desk supervisor and then overseeing restaurant and club lounge operations before becoming duty manager. Moving across the city to the new Crown Tower Resort & Casino, Fred was part of the opening team as assistant front office manager, staying at the hotel for seven years before leaving Australia for a spell at the COMO Parrot Cay Resort in the British West Indies. Later postings included front office manager at the Grand Hyatt Singpore and executive assistant manager at the Six Senses resort in Ma’in, Jordan.
The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), an Australian-based accreditation body, has reviewed the curriculum, staffing and facilities and determined that EAHM has met their international benchmarks. All THE-ICE accredited institutions are highly regarded for their hospitality and tourism courses and EAHM has now joined the ranks of these institutions which include public and private universities from more than 10 different countries.

Moecking’s career has taken him through a series of positions at major hotel companies around the world. Martin Van Kan joins the luxury hotel brand as general manager, Fairmont Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. With over 25 years of hospitality experience, Van Kan brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position and a worldly awareness having worked in a number of places including Seoul, Indonesia, Nepal and China. Van Kan is a graduate of the Hotel and Tourism School, Les Roches, in Switzerland. Van Kan held several managerial positions throughout his career across a variety of markets, namely in Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom.

An Indian national, he has worked in India, Kenya, Nepal, Singapore and the Middle East, holding General Manager Positions with Starwood and IHG. He joined Ramada Downtown Dubai in November 2010 after spending 3 years in Nairobi where he opened Crown Plaza Hotel being involved from the project stage.
After completing three years in the position of General Manager at Mövenpick Tower & Suites Doha, Philippe assumes the leading role at the Ibn Battuta Gate, a five-star hotel, cleverly inspired by the journeys of the 14th century celebrated Arabian explorer, Ibn Battuta. Prior to joining Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, Bonnot has held the General Manager's position in a selection of hotels for Le Méridien group including Cochin & Convention centre in India, Hôtel Le Méridien Heliopolis, Egypt and Hôtel Le Méridien Bruxelles, Belgium. During his 10 years in Le Méridien Bonnot was involve in major projects within each hotel ranging from effective cost saving plans, tackling new markets, reaching high scores on both employee satisfaction surveys and guest satisfaction indexes.

Six Senses is delighted to announce the opening of a Six Senses Spa at Hotel Missoni Kuwait in early Summer 2011. The Six Senses Spa, on the second floor of the new five-star designer hotel, will have 13 treatment rooms including two Hammams, separate areas for men and ladies, and a bridal room including salon, pedicure and manicure areas. The 1,500-square metre spa will also house a fitness centre with a mixed and ladies-only gym, yoga studio, experience shower, sauna, steam rooms and luxurious relaxation areas.
