Scott Thomas has been appointed as Club Director at LaPlaya Beach & Golf Club at LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort

As an accomplished hospitality leader with 25 years of professional experience, Thomas has an established history of success serving as food and beverage director, general manager and director of operations with numerous luxury hotels/resorts and private clubs -- such as Jonathan Club in Los Angeles, Calif., Cheyenne Mountain Resort and Country Club of Colorado and Sonnenalp Hotel, Resort and Golf Club in Vail, Colo. However, Thomas joins LaPlaya most recently from Stratton Mountain Resort and Country Club in Vermont, where he served as Food and Beverage Director, as well as General Manager of the resort’s elite private club, overseeing a total of 10 venues while achieving annual revenues of $14 million+.

Hans Schmitt has been named General Manager at Naples Grande Beach Resort

Hans Schmitt has been appointed General Manager at the Naples Grande Beach Resort in addition to his role as Director of Asset Management for Northwood Hospitality. In this position he will oversee operations of the hotel, which includes 474 guestrooms, suites and Garden Villas and over 83,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor event space. This iconic Naples, FL resort is currently underway on $18M renovations as part of its transition to a newly independent property.

Suya Davenport has been named Director of Leisure Sales at Personal Luxury Resorts & Hotels

Benchmark Hospitality International®, a leading U.S.-based hospitality management company, has appointed Suya Davenport corporate director of leisure sales for the company's Personal Luxury Resorts & Hotels® brand. Ms. Davenport is based in Naples, Florida, and operates out of offices within Benchmark's Naples Bay Resort, a Personal Luxury Resort located in the city. This is a new position for Benchmark Hospitality and Personal Luxury Resorts & Hotels. Ted Davis, chief sales and marketing officer for Benchmark Hospitality International, made the announcement. Suya Davenport was previously director of sales & marketing for ONE Bal Harbour Resort & Spa in Bal Harbour, Florida, and at Naples Bay Resort, in Naples, Florida. Prior to joining Benchmark Hospitality International, Ms. Davenport served as executive director of the Lee County Visitors & Convention Bureau in Fort Myers, which under her leadership received three Flagler Awards by VISIT FLORIDA and a Destiny Award from the U.S. Travel Association. Earlier in her career, she served in sales leadership positions at major luxury-brand hotels and resorts on both coasts of Florida and in the Caribbean.

Phillip Starling has been appointed as General Manager at Naples Bay Resort

Benchmark Hospitality International, a leading U.S.-based hospitality management company, has appointed Phillip Starling general manager of Naples Bay Resort, the award-winning property located in Naples, Florida. Naples Bay Resort is part of Benchmark Hospitality’s collection of Personal Luxury Resorts & Hotels SM. Greg Champion, Benchmark’s chief operating officer, made the announcement.Phillip Starling was most recently director of operations for Marenas Resort, Benchmark’s Personal Luxury property located in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. Prior to joining Benchmark Hospitality International, Mr. Starling served as general manager for The Grove Isle Hotel & Spa, located in Coconut Grove, Florida. He has held senior-level leadership and management positions for hotels and resorts throughout Florida, Georgia and Kentucky.

Rudy Gonnella has been appointed as National Account Manager, Southeast at Naples Grande Beach Resort

Gonnella brings more than 25 years of experience to his new role at Naples Grande, developing interactive meetings, conferences and incentive gatherings that take full advantage of the resort’s 48,000-square-feet of dedicated meeting space, Golden Door® spa, championship golf and tennis, and three miles of pristine Gulf beach adjoining a 200-acre mangrove estuary and preserve. In addition to his previous tenure at the resort, his prior experience includes serving as director of catering & conference services for Florida’s Amelia Island Plantation; as sales manager with LXR for its Sanibel Island collection of hotels; and eight years as director of banquets with Orient Express Hotels at Charleston Place, South Carolina. He began his career in hospitality in 1986 as part of the team opening the Ritz-Carlton Naples. He holds a degree in culinary arts from the Culinary Institute of America.

Patricia Cotte has been appointed as Group Sales Manager at Inn On Fifth

Located in Naples in southwest Florida, the landmark Inn on Fifth has hired Patricia Cotte as Group Sales Manager, adding to the Inn’s already impressive group sales team. Cotte will direct efforts to increase meeting and group business at the sophisticated, 87-room Inn on Fifth, which is a long-time popular choice for weddings, board meetings, fundraisers, and other celebrations and events. Cotte has extensive experience in group sales, including work at the Vinoy in St. Petersburg, Fla. and The Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Southern California. She has more than 15 years experience in group sales and sales and marketing, most recently at “Sip n’ Sail” in Naples.

Suya I. Davenport has been appointed as Director of Sales at Naples Bay Resort

Suya Davenport was previously the executive director of the Lee County Visitors & Convention Bureau, located in Fort Myers. In this role she was responsible for the strategic planning and sales & marketing operations of the organization, focusing on domestic and international markets. Under her leadership, the Visitors & Convention Bureau was awarded three prestigious Flagler Awards by VISIT FLORIDA, the state’s tourism organization, and a Destiny Award from the US Travel Association. This was the second time in her career that she worked with the Lee County Visitors & Convention Bureau, having served as sales manager in the early 1990s. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Davenport was corporate director of global strategic partnerships for LXR Luxury Resorts, based in Naples, Florida. In this role she was responsible for overall integration of the transient and business market segments within luxury FIT, consortia, and third-party markets on behalf of the company’s 30 properties in the United States and the Caribbean. Ms. Davenport has also served as director of leisure sales for Boca Resorts, Inc., working with the Boca Raton Resort & Club, The Registry Resort & Club and the Edgewater Beach Hotel & Club. She held the same position for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. Suya Davenport received her Bachelor of Arts in Marketing degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa. Earlier she received her Associate of Arts in Business Administration degree from Edison Community College in Fort Myers. She resides in Fort Myers Beach.

Scott D. Sopher has been appointed as Executive Chef at Naples Bay Resort

Scott Sopher was previously executive chef and equity partner of Cin Cin Mediterranean Cuisine, a Fort Myers restaurant serving cuisine inspired by the diverse cultures and flavors of the Mediterranean. He has also served as executive chef for Traders of Bonita Springs, Florida. Earlier in his culinary career while based in Asheville, North Carolina, Chef Sopher refined his culinary skills while employed as sous chef for The Richmond Inn. While in Asheville, he participated in prestigious culinary training programs at the landmark Biltmore Estate. Scott Sopher is a graduate of the acclaimed culinary school, Johnson & Wales University of Providence, Rhode Island. He resides in Bonita Springs with his family.

Steve Dorcy has been appointed as General Manager at Inn at Pelican Bay

Steve Dorcy, a hotelier with 30 years experience managing four-and five-star independent resorts, has been named general manager of the newly upgraded Inn at Pelican Bay in North Naples. Prior to his appointment, Dorcy served as general manager of the Marriott Hotel in St. Petersburg where he and his team achieved the highest guest service scores for the state of Florida in 2009. Dorcy’s extensive hospitality background includes serving as the general manager of the Plantation Golf Resort & Spa, Plaza Resort & Spa, Sundial Beach & Tennis Resort and Hilton East Memphis where he and his team achieved #1 Hilton Hotel status for guest satisfaction in the U.S. for two years in a row. He holds a hospitality management degree from Lynn University and has held leadership positions with a number of industry associations including serving as chairman of the Memphis Lodging Association. Industry recognition includes being named General Manager of the Year by Ocean Waters Development, Hotelier of the Year by Memphis Tennessee Hotel Lodging Association and receiving the White House staff “Above and Beyond” service award.

Kerry Mitruska has been named Senior Sales Manager at Naples Bay Resort

Kerry Mitruska was previously vice president sales and marketing for Coral Hospitality of Naples, Florida. In this role he oversaw the sales and marketing programming for a portfolio of twelve resorts in a variety of markets. Prior to this, Mr. Mitruska served as director of sales and marketing for Interstate Hotels & Resorts of Fort Myers, Florida, responsible for six properties. He has also been employed as area director of sales and marketing for LXR Resorts of Naples. Mr. Mitruska has previously served as director of sales for the Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida, and held the title of executive director of group sales for Kerzner International Resorts, Inc., of Fort Lauderdale. Earlier in his career, Kerry Mitruska worked in sales leadership positions internationally, including serving as director of sales and marketing for The Empire Hotel & Country Club, Brunei, Darussalam; area director of marketing for the five-star Four Seasons-Regent Hotels of Bangkok, Thailand; and as director of sales and marketing for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company of Sydney, Australia. He launched his hospitality career holding sales positions with the Ritz Carlton organization, with the Westin Hilton Head in North Carolina, and for the Ocean Reef Club of Key Largo, Florida.
