Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts has appointed three associates to join Angsana Laguna Phuket, the flagship property of sister brand Angsana Hotels & Resorts, set to open on December 1, 2011. The team will consist of Jerry John as General Manager, Ed Diluca as Resident Manager and Luhu Winarno as Executive Assistant Manager, Rooms. Together, this top-notch group has more than 16 years of experience managing some of the top Banyan Tree properties around the world. Leading the hotel as General Manager is Jerry John, who has 25 years of hospitality experience under his belt. Prior to Angsana Laguna Phuket, Mr. John oversaw operations of the award-winning Banyan Tree Phuket as Hotel Manager. Ed Diluca was an integral part of the opening team at Banyan Tree Mayakoba in Mexico, and directed the food and beverage function there for two years. Executive Assistant Manager, Rooms, Luhu Winarno, has been with Banyan Tree since 1999 and was most recently Hotel Manager, Banyan Tree Ringha in China.

Visser will be based in Outrigger's Asia Pacific corporate office in Phuket, Thailand. He will be responsible for overseeing and directing all hotel operations of the Group in the Asia Pacific region. Visser previously held finance and operations positions with the Mandarin Oriental and Peninsula hotel groups. A native of New Zealand, Visser will help Outrigger expand its portfolio of hotels in Asia Pacific. Outrigger currently has properties open in Phuket and Koh Samui in Thailand, Bali in Indonesia, Fiji, and three in Queensland, Australia. It has confirmed additional projects in Bali, Vietnam and Hainan, China. Apart from the Mandarin Oriental and Peninsula groups, Visser also worked for Hyatt International and as a management consultant in London.
Mr Croft started his career at Banyan Tree in 2006 as the Director of Sales, UK where he successfully managed leisure accounts and business out of the UK. He also held the role of Director of Sales & Marketing for Angsana Riads Collection, Morocco where he was involved in pre-opening and opening of six riads, responsible for marketing plans, rates and sales strategy.

The hotel will be closed from 1 July 2011 for extensive renovation and refurbishment works to the sum of US$30 million. The works will include all rooms, meeting facilities, and public spaces such as the lobby and restaurants. When completed, the hotel will be re-branded under Banyan Tree’s sister brand, Angsana Hotels & Resorts, as Angsana Laguna Phuket.

Previous work experience includes tenure as Assistant Director of Sales, Senior Sales Manager and Sales Manager at Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square. Her employment portfolio also includes placments in the Sales department at Conrad Hotel Bangkok and as part Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit’s pre-opening team. Thitaya brings fifteen years of dedicated experience to the team and will be based at the resort’s Bangkok Sales Office.
The resort’s general manager, Peter Schiess is delighted to announce the promotion of Siriwan Nipatchareon as Director of Sales and Marketing following a two year tenure as Director of Sales with the Radisson Plaza Resort Phuket Panwa Beach, the first Radisson Plaza in Southeast Asia. The Indigo Pearl announced the recent appointment of Michael Nurbatlian as Sales Manager. Michael, a Lebanese National with French heritage, holds a bachelor degree in Political Sciences from the American University in Beirut and a post graduate degree in Hospitality Operations from the renowned Glion hotel school in Switzerland. Prior joining the Indigo Pearl, Michael was the e-commerce executive in charge of online marketing at the 5 star Millennium Resort Phuket.
The Swiss national is a highly regarded hotelier who brings to his new role over 25 years of hospitality background across more than ten cities. He most recently served as general manager of the 330-room Radisson Blu Resort Hotel, Tala Bay in Aqaba, Jordan where he played a pivotal role in the resort’s successful launch. From 2006 to 2009, he successfully managed the Radisson Blu Resort, Taba, Egypt and was also instrumental in the opening of the Ramada Renaissance Hotel Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Forty-eight per cent of all new hotel developments in Phuket are experiencing major construction delays triggered by the global economic downturn and concerns over Thailand's political stability. The Phuket Hotel Market Update's midyear report, released yesterday by hospitality consulting firm C9 Hotelworks, said the slowdown on hotel construction sites had not, however, dented developers' enthusiasm for entering the accommodation market in the province.
Outrigger Enterprises Group announced today that it has been selected to manage a new luxury collection of residences, villas, town homes and apartments being developed by Laguna Resorts & Hotels Public Company Limited in Laguna Phuket, located on Bang Tao Bay on the northwestern coast of Phuket, Thailand. The new collection will be named "Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort and Villas". When fully built out, it will consist of 309 two-, three- and four-bedroom units, many with their own private swimming pools. The first units will be ready for occupancy in the fourth quarter of 2009.
