Manuel Martinez Garcimartin has been appointed as General Manager at The St. Regis Washington, D.C.

Mr. Martinez Garcimartin joined Starwood Hotels & Resorts in 2000, at the famed Palace Hotel, in Madrid, Spain. His next few assignments took him to five-star luxury golf resort, Westin La Quinta in Marbella, Spain, Essex House in New York City and Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel in San Sebastian, Spain. From there, Executive Assistant Manager/Director of Operations for Sheraton Krakow Hotel in Poland. Then Executive Office Task Force, where he assisted in leading the rebranding of the iconic Bristol Warsaw Hotel from Le Méridien into the Bristol Warsaw, a Luxury Collection Hotel. Mr. Martinez Garcimartin held the position of Hotel Manager at The St. Regis New York, the brand's flagship hotel, where he assisted the general manager in the hotel's operations, maintaining the highest levels of service and brand standards, and drove profit for the organization.

AH&LA Applauds GSA For Per Diem Rate Increase

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the sole national association representing all segments of the 1.8 million-employee lodging industry, today issued the following statement on the release of federal per diem rates for FY2016 announced by the General Services Administration (GSA) this morning. "Ensuring that per diem rates reflect the realities of the market has been a key priority of AH&LA and we applaud GSA's efforts to ensure lodging rates reflect current market conditions. The increase in the standard rate to $89 from $83 is a step in the right direction," said Katherine Lugar, president and CEO of AH&LA."We also commend GSA for working closely with the travel and lodging industries to make an important change in its policy to now review the standard continental United States (CONUS) rate every year instead of every three years. This significant shift will ensure that rates align with economic conditions while also providing value for government travelers. We look forward to collaborating closely with the GSA and others to ensure that government travel rates remain fair to taxpayers, government workers and the travel industry."The lodging industry is responsible for generating more than $160 billion in business travel tax revenue annually. Lodging-related Groups Send Letter To DOJ Opposing Expedia’s Acquisition Of Orbitz

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the sole national association representing all segments of the 1.8 million-employee lodging industry, today applauded the dozens of small hotels and independent properties, state associations and other lodging-related groups who sent a letter to the Department of Justice urging the Department to block Expedia's proposed acquisition of Orbitz. The letter argues that consumer choice could be jeopardized, competition could steeply drop, and small and independent hotels could suffer from the anticompetitive effects of the consolidated market if the merger goes through.

Tracy Marks has been appointed general manager of the 1,070-room landmark Washington Hilton, according to Ted Ratcliff, senior vice president of operation, Eastern U.S. Marks will assume his new post effective immediately; at the very hotel where he began his hospitality career as beverage manager in 1982.He most recently held the position of general manager of Hilton Portland and Executive Towers in Portland, Oregon.

AH&LA Applauds FTC Action To Alert Consumers On Rogue Online Booking Sites

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the sole national association representing all segments of the 1.8 million-employee lodging industry, today welcomed action by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alerting consumers about deceptive online hotel booking sites, which trick consumers into thinking they are booking directly with the hotel. The agency posted two blogs (see links below) about these deceptive practices, warning consumers of this growing problem and offering advice on how to avoid scams.
