Jay Karen has been named member of the board of directors at the U.S. Travel Association

Jay Karen, president and chief executive officer of the Professional Association of Innkeepers International (PAII), was elected by peers in the travel industry to serve a two-year term as an at-large member of the U.S. Travel Association board of directors. This will be the first time a representative from the bed and breakfast industry will serve the organization in this capacity. Jay has fifteen years of experience in organizational and association management and leadership, fourteen of which has been in the hospitality and leisure market. Since 2007, Jay has served the bed and breakfast industry as president and CEO of PAII. For ten years prior to that, he served in senior staff positions with the National Golf Course Owners Association, representing and promoting the business interests of golf course operators worldwide.

Vinh Nguyen has been named General Manager at The Eldon Luxury Suites Hotel

A native of Washington, DC, Vinh Nguyen was previously Assistant General Manager for The Eldon Luxury Suites. He began with the property during the preopening phase, responsible to the owner for sourcing materials for the hotel’s new suites, and eventually served as Accountant for the hotel throughout its pre-opening and soft opening periods. He has also managed the Front Office for The Eldon.

Brian Calder has been appointed as Director Group Sales at The Fairmont Washington, D.C.

Prior to joining The Fairmont Washington, D.C., Calder was the director of group sales for The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Jasper, Alberta Canada from February of 2009. Previously, he was Fairmont’s regional sales manager for Canada’s western mountain region from June 2006 through January 2009. He began his hotel career at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in October 2004 as a tour and group sales agent.

Mayur Chheda has been named Member of the AH&LA Board of Directors at American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA)

Mayur R. Chheda, CPA, CHA, CHO, Principal and Chief Development Officer of Infinity Hotel Group has been elected to represent New Jersey on the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Board of Directors for a three-year term. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Southern New Jersey, Mayur graduated from New York University (NYU) – Stern School of Business in 2000. Joining Infinity Hotel Group in 2001, his former work experience includes Merrill Lynch, Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC), and Ernst and Young (E&Y) Real Estate Group.

Jim Horsman has been appointed as Managing Director at the Madison Hotel

Charles S. Peck, president and chief operating officer for Destination Hotels & Resorts, today announced the company will manage The Madison, a 353-room hotel in the heart of the nation’s capital. The Madison marks Destination’s return to Washington, D.C. to once again manage an iconic independent property in the market. The company has tapped veteran hotelier Jim Horsman to lead the repositioning of The Madison and to bring the property to its former glory. As managing director of The Madison, Horsman brings more than two decades of luxury hotel experience to the property. He most recently opened Destination’s Stowe Mountain Lodge in Vermont, which was named among the top hotels in the world by Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

Anupam Banerjee has been appointed as Head Chef at the Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C.

Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. is delighted to announce that Anupam Banerjee has been appointed as Head Chef. Banerjee joins the award-winning hotel’s team with 15 years of industry experience and will be responsible for banquets and catering. Chef Banerjee joined Mandarin Oriental nine years ago in London where he was Executive Sous Chef. He spent the past three years at Mandarin Oriental, Geneva where he opened the fine dining restaurant Rasoi, which has been honoured with a Michelin star for two successive years. Prior to joining Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Chef Banerjee held leadership roles at both Raffles Hotel Singapore as well as The Oberoi Hotel Group.

David M. Hill has been appointed as General Manager at the Four Points by Sheraton, Washington, D.C., Downtown

Mr. Hill joins Crestline Hotels & Resorts from the Davidson Hotel Company where he was General Manager for the Hyatt Regency Suites, Palm Springs, CA. He brings more than 19 years of hospitality operations and management experience having begun his career at the Fisher Island Club in Miami, FL. He also operated various resort properties in the Caribbean, as well as serving as General Manager for the Hotel George, Hotel Lombardy and the Henley Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. Mr. Hill holds a Diploma of Hospitality Management from New York University. He is active in the hospitality industry.

Flavia Sampaio has been appointed as General Manager at the Residence Inn by Marriott - Dupont Circle

Donohoe Hospitality Services LLC has named Flavia Sampaio General Manager of the Residence Inn by Marriott – Dupont Circle in Northwest Washington, DC. Ms. Sampaio was previously Assistant General Manager of the Washington Suites Alexandria. The Residence Inn by Marriott Dupont Circle is located at 2120 P Street, NW in the heart of the Dupont Circle neighborhood. The 107-suite hotel offers studio, 1-bedroom and two-bedroom suites and complimentary breakfast 7-days a week. The Residence Inn by Marriott Dupont Circle is managed by Donohoe Hospitality Services LLC, a division of The Donohoe Companies, Inc., established in 1884. Brooke Stall has been named General Manager of the Year for its TownePlace Suites Brand at Marriott International

Marriott International named Brooke Stall the General Manager of the Year for its TownePlace Suites brand of hotels for the second time. Selected from among all general managers throughout the United States, Ms. Stall serves as General Manager of the TownePlace Suites-Kennesaw, GA, a hotel managed by Atlanta-based Hotel Equities. Ms. Stall earned her first GM of the Year award from Marriott in 2007 when she managed the TownePlace Suites hotel in Alpharetta, GA. From the Alpharetta hotel, Hotel Equities promoted her to manage the TownePlace Suites-Kennesaw, a hotel that Marriott also uses for training purposes. In addition to her GM duties, Ms. Stall also helps Marriott instructors train associates from across the country to be TPS general managers. Ms. Stall joined Hotel Equities in 1995 as a housekeeper and worked in several positions, including the Front Desk, before moving into a management position in 2002. Her success is a reflection on her work ethic, leadership skills and sales ability. All are critical to managing a successful hotel.
