Global Hospitality Giant Lengthens its Lead in China Opening 23 Hotels in 2012

With recent hotel openings in Ningbo, Sanya, Yangzhou and Xian, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) today announced it has surpassed the opening of its 100th operating hotel in China with plans to open 15 additional hotels by the end of this year. With eight hotels already opened in the first quarter of 2012, Starwood will open a total of 23 hotels in China in 2012, which is on pace with 2011 openings making 2012 the second consecutive year the company has opened a record number of hotels here in any one year.

CEOs of Big Hotel Chains Unfazed by China’s Slowing Growth | CNBC

China’s slowing economy isn’t deterring CEOs of the world’s biggest international hotel chains, who describe the Chinese market as the “most important in the world” and are keeping their aggressive expansion plans for the country intact. Christopher Nassetta, CEO of Hilton worldwide, told CNBC that the company plans to more than quadruple the number of hotels in China over the next few years, after growing that number to 30 from just 5, four years ago.

Roger Mair has been appointed as Vice President - Operations Greater China at Swiss International Hotels

A Swiss national, Roger Mair has 29 years of hospitality experience in South Korea, Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and China, with International hotel groups such as Peninsula, Shangri-La, IHG and Accor. While holding senior operational and managerial positions all these years, Roger opened four deluxe hotels during the last 11 years as General Manager. In Xiamen, he opened the Sofitel and Pullman hotels in 2005 and 2012. Roger joins Swiss International Hotels & Resorts (China) as Vice President Operations of the group, as well as General Manager of their first hotel in China, the Swiss International Hotel Xiamen.

Positive 2012 RevPAR forecast for Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney | STR Reports

STR Global, the leading provider of market data to the hotel industry, is forecasting positive revenue per available room (RevPAR) growth across four key Asian markets in 2012. STR Global forecasts on a quarterly basis the hotel performance in Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney. RevPAR growth is expected to be mainly driven by increasing average daily rate (ADR), following strong occupancy performances in Singapore, Hong Kong and Sydney during 2011. The markets posted occupancy of more than 80 percent for the year, while Beijing achieved just less than 70 percent.
