The Finnish Competition Authority has today announced that it has decided to initiate further proceedings of Scandic Hotel Group's ("Scandic") proposed acquisition of Restel's hotel operations in Finland.

Scandic Hotels, the largest hotel company in the Nordic region, has signed a long-term rental agreement with LAK Real Estate Oyj , a subsidiary of Finavia, to establish and operate a new hotel at Helsinki airport. Work to complete the Scandic Helsinki Airport hotel will start in January 2017, with the opening scheduled for the first half of 2018. The hotel will have 148 rooms.
Scandic Hotels, the largest hotel company in the Nordic countries, has signed a long-term lease agreement with Airaksinen Capital to take over the operation of the former Kantarellis hotel in central Vasa from June 2016. The hotel, which has 68 rooms today, will be expanded to include close to 140 hotel rooms at the same time as the hotel's conference and congress facilities will be expanded. The expansion is expected to be finished at the end of 2017. In connection with the takeover, the name of the hotel will be changed to Scandic Vaasa.

Marriott International, Inc. today announced plans to open the 272-room Helsinki Marriott Hotel in early 2013 under a franchise agreement with Scandinavian Hospitality Management Espoo OY. The hotel will be owned by Kiinteisto OY Kuninkaansatama, a joint venture between Ultivista OY and BMZ-Invest OY.
The new eight-storey hotel will get a prime location, close to the railway station. It will have 207 rooms, including 12 rooms for disabled guests and five rooms with a sauna. At street level there will be a restaurant, lobby bar and three meeting rooms. The building will also have a garage with 51 parking spaces, and of course everything you can expect from a Scandic hotel such as a lobby shop, a gym and a leading sustainability program.
