The Middle Eastern country of Oman is the subject of some reimagining of its potential from within the region. A panel discussion by the Majlis al-Shura, the region's political and advisory body, stated that more was to be done to tap into the underexploited resource of Oman's tourism industry. According to a report by the Committee on Addressing the Economic Crisis and its Impact on the Society, Oman should be monitoring tourism patterns and activities and investigating ways in which the culture, heritage and geography of Oman could be used to increase the tourism sector in the area so that it would benefit the economy.
Rotana, one of the leading hotel management companies in the region with hotels across the Middle East, Africa and Turkey, signed a management agreement with Golden Group Holding (GGH), a diversified Oman-based business group with interests in real estate, hospitality, construction, logistics and oil and gas, for a new hotel project in Muscat, Oman.
Deutsche Hospitality is robustly pursuing its course of expansion and has signed a further agreement for a hotel in Oman. A 120-room three-star IntercityHotel is scheduled to open in Nizwa by 2019. The hotel, which will offer event spaces, a spa complete with gym area, a swimming pool, a restaurant and a bar, will be operated via a management agreement. The contractual partner will be the Nizwa Integrated Real Estate Company ("NIREC"), Sultanate of Oman.
Grand Hyatt Muscat announced the appointment of Paul Murphy as its new general manager from the end of this month. Hailing from Australia, Murphy began his career in food and beverage sector, which led him to work for some of the world’s leading hotels in the UK, Canada, Japan, Russia and back in Australia, before joining Hyatt. He was appointed director of catering at Grand Hyatt Dubai and was then promoted to director of events. For almost five years, he headed the hotel’s Convention and Catering Sales team. In January 2011, Murphy became resident manager of Hyatt Regency Delhi, where he spent 18 months, before being assigned to oversee rebranding and launching of the five Hyatt hotels in India. In September 2013, he became general manager of Hyatt Regency Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan.
