NOMAD Hotels Group, the first Peruvian "home-boutique" hotel network, announced the opening of its first hotel in Arequipa under the name of NOMAD Urban AQP. Elmer Benavente has been appointed as Executive Chef at JW Marriott El Convento Cusco

A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Institute in Peru with studies in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Elmer Benavente Lobon is an insightful Peruvian chef with strong culinary experience and leadership skills.At his young age he has an extensive background in restaurants and hotels in Peru, Australia and Mexico; to name a few, the world-renowned Tetsuya's, Quay and Bennelong at the Opera House in Sydney and Pujol in Mexico City.He began his professional career in Australia, and thanks to the bi g-name restaurants in which he worked, he had the opportunity to do international events in Japan, the United States, Mexico and New Zealand. After his time in Oceania, he returned to Peru to stay in the Imperial City and thus fuse the culinary experience in international techniques with local products, becoming the Executive Chef of local restaurants with great name, such is the case of Morena Peruvian Kitchen and Ceviche, which are located in the Plaza de Armas in Cusco.

Eduardo Ortiz has been appointed as General Manager at JW Marriott El Convento Cusco

Eduardo Ortiz has an extensive professional career of more than 20 years in the hotel industry, during this time he has held leadership positions in hotels located in Mexico, Thailand, Brazil, Guam and Peru. During his career he has participated in important projects such as the reopening of The Ritz Carlton St. Thomas, the opening of The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, Puerto Rico, the conversion of the current JW Marriott Panama and a task force in the area of Food and Beverage at The Ritz Carlton Reserve Zadun.His beginnings date back to 2000 with the opening of the JW Marriott Hotel Lima, where he served as supervisor of the Food and Beverage area. Later, in 2006, he moved to Mexico to take the position of restaurant and bar manager at the Marriott Casa Magna Puerto Vallarta. Two years later, in 2008, he began a new professional challenge on the other side of the world, in Asia, where he served as Food and Beverage Director at the Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa in Thailand. "A great opportunity to learn and appreciate part of the Asian culture".In 2010 he returned to South America, to Brazil, where he was appointed Food & Beverage Director of the JW Marriott Ho tel Rio De Janeiro, and a year later he returned to his native Peru to occupy, likewise, a Food & Beverage directorship, but this time at The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center.In 2014, he again ventured outside Peru, this time to Guam, an island belonging to the United States, in the Western Pacific. There he assumed the position of Hotel Manager of a property belonging to a hospitality company of Thai origin.After three years, he returned to Lima, Peru, and joined the JW Marriott Hotel Lima team as Director of Food and Beverage, where he was later promoted to Director of Operations.Recently, he was appointed General Manager of JW Marriott El Convento Cusco, his first opportunity to hold this position. "I firmly believe in the power of motivation and teamwork, which come from leading by example consistently".Eduardo Ortiz is a business administrator graduated from the Peruvian Institute of Business Administration. He also holds a master's degree in Hospita lity Management from Cornell University in New York, as well as certifications from the same university in Hospitality Marketing, Hotel Revenue Management, New Media Marketing for Hospitality and Leading Customer Focused Teams.In his free time, he enjoys the beach, movies, music, traveling, gastronomy, and spending time with his son. He also has a passion for swimming, which led him in 1989 to be part of the Peruvian National Swimming Team.

Mariano Formariz has been appointed as General Manager and Area Director for Peru at Sheraton Lima Hotel & Convention Center

Marriott International is pleased to announce the appointment of Mariano Formariz as the new Area Director for Peru and General Manager of the Sheraton Lima Hotel & Convention Center. Mariano Formariz is a professional with more than 20 years in the hotel industry, a career in which he has held leadership positions in properties located in Mexico and South America, mainly in his native Argentina.Prior to this app ointment, Formariz had spent six years as Complex General Manager of the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center and of TLC, Park Tower Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.His beginnings date back to 1996 as a Customer Service Agent at Aspen Tower Hotel, Buenos Aires. Two years later, Mariano joined the Marriott International family to continue under the same position but at the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center, in Buenos Aires. In the same place and in just over two years, he became Senior General Services Administrator and then Front Desk Manager.By January 2003, Formariz's rising career took another leap, holding the position of Reception Manager at the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center and Park Tower, Luxury Collection, in Buenos Aires. During his four-year tenure in this position, he was a Six Sigma Green Belt at both hotels.Mariano decided to move to Mexico, specifically to Puerto Vallarta, in 2007, where he worked as Director of Rooms at the Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta.Three years and four months later, Formariz returned to the southern cone to position himself as General Manager of the Four Points by Sheraton Montevideo, in Montevideo, Uruguay. However, he promptly decided to return to Argentina (2013), where he was again in charge of the General Management, but this time, of the Sheraton Salta Hotel, in Salta.In little more than a year, Mariano returned to his origins in Buenos Aires. He continued to officiate as General Manager, in this case, of the Park Tower Hotel.Formariz has a Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Administration from the University of Belgrano in Buenos Aires, a Master Certificate in Essentials of Hospitality Management from CORNELL University in Ithaca, United States. He also, from the same North American university, obtained online certifications in High Performance Teams, Applications of Strategic Influence, Design Thinking for Global Operations, Decision Making and Accountability, and Obtaining Results through Talent Management. In addition, Mariano took an ASCENT course for Vice President positions with the endorsement of Marriott International and the University of North Carolina, United States.He speaks Spanish as his native language, he is fluent in English and has adequate Portuguese. He is married, has two children, loves traveling with his family around the world, playing soccer, tennis and paddle tennis.
