STR & MAGMA: Spanish hotel sector still booming despite upcoming challenges

Thanks to strong performance growth in several markets, Spain's hotel industry has seen a surge in investment interest despite the political situation in Barcelona, according to STR and Magma Hospitality Consulting. "Investment into Spain's hotel sector has been largely driven by strong international tourism demand, even during the financial crisis," said Albert Grau, founding partner of Magma. "Increasing holiday tourism, as well as 'bleisure' travel, have set the market up for numerous development opportunities, with several operators currently working to improve their products and services to meet this increasing demand."

HFTP Responds, Makes Changes to HITEC Europe 2019

Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®) announced several changes to the European Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC®) after the second HITEC Europe in 2018 failed to meet HFTP's high quality standards. After completing surveys, interviews and conducting additional industry research, changes to the program and exhibition have been made, including the re-location of HITEC Europe 2019. Originally announced for Amsterdam, and the location of the first-two years of HITEC Europe, in 2019 it will be located at the Palau de Congressos in Palma (Mallorca) Spain, scheduled for 10-11 April.

UNWTO’s Executive Council supports the priorities of the Secretary-General for his mandate and new management team

The city of San Sebastian, Spain hosted the 108th meeting of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) from 23-25 May. During the meeting, Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili obtained the support of this key governing body for the priorities that will set up the work of the organization for the coming years. Likewise, the Council supported the new structure of the UNWTO, its renewed institutional image and the designated management team for the implementation of the agreed programme of work.
