The problem with London hotels in the past wasn’t always that the food was unexciting; quite a few hotels had extremely good chefs working for them. No, the problem was that the ambience was unexciting – ancient waiters in dinner jackets, rooms that hadn’t been redecorated since the Duke of Wellington’s day and a rather starchy feel. That’s all changed today and so has the way many hotels see their food service. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, for instance, is really a Heston Blumenthal restaurant which just happens to sit within the Mandarin Oriental hotel – rather than being the hotel’s dining room.

Graeme Nesbitt has been appointed as General Manager at The Mere Golf Resort and Spa

Nesbitt joins as the Cheshire-based resort gears up to open an 81-room luxury hotel in March 2012 – part of a £15m redevelopment of the site. In January, The Mere completed the installation of a new health club and spa, while it is still in the midst of refurbishing its conferencing suites. Nesbitt was previously at Cameron House, where he was resort general manager. Before that he worked at Malmaison hotels in Birmingham and Edinburgh and St Andrews Bay Golf Resort & Spa. Some of Nesbitt's duties were previously within the remit Mark Boler, The Mere’s chief executive, who said: "Graeme is the perfect person to help us drive The Mere forward with his experience, which is a perfect match for our goal to create a world-class destination resort."

Stratford’s oldest hotel solves guest communication challenge with Quadriga and LG

Quadriga and LG have partnered to provide The White Swan Hotel in Stratford-Upon-Avon with the LG Pro:Centric V hospitality TV solution. It enables the hotel to deliver information on hotel services and local attractions directly to guests, via the TV. Quadriga experts have worked with the hotel to deliver the most effective way of communicating this information, incorporating brand requirements of both the hotel and parent company, Fullers. The White Swan is the first UK installation of the new and unique LG Pro:Centric V.

Corinthia Hotels founder and chairman Alfred Pisani has been appointed as corporate patron at Just a Drop

Fiona Jeffery, founder and chairman, Just a Drop, the international water-aid charity, announced the appointment of Alfred Pisani, founder and group chairman, Corinthia Hotels, as a corporate patron. Corinthia Hotels, the five-star hotel collection, will also formally adopt Just a Drop as its official charity. Other Just a Drop patrons include Baroness Joyce Anelay of St. Johns, Lord Digby-Jones as well as television presenters Stephen Sackur and Alastair Stewart. Corinthia Hotels hosted the recent Just a Drop annual gala reception at its newly opened luxury property, the Corinthia Hotel London, located in the heart of the West End in Whitehall Place, in-between Trafalgar Square and the Embankment.

Alison Wheatley has been appointed as Brand Marketing Manager, Europe at Jumeirah Group

Based in the Regional Sales Offices in London, Alison Wheatley (top left image) has been appointed Brand Marketing Manager, Europe. A British national, Alison has been with Jumeirah Group since April 2010 when she joined as Marketing & Communications Manager at Jumeirah Carlton Tower and Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel. Prior to joining Jumeirah, Alison held the position of Marketing Manager at the Athenaeum Hotel, London for close to 10 years. In her role as Brand Marketing Manager, Alison will develop the marketing strategy for new hotel openings in Europe and will be the regional manager for Jumeirah brand communications.
