The Cornell University Nolan School of Hotel Administration’s Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship today announced the creation of a network and a series of events, resources, and convenings for entrepreneurial individuals and organizations throughout the hospitality industry. This network will facilitate the sharing of best practices, bridging of funding sources and investing opportunities, and identification of partnership and collaboration opportunities. It was launched with a convening of 50 extraordinary entrepreneurs and thought leaders who traveled from around the country to a one-of-a-kind Summit at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa on May 2nd and 3rd.

Accor unveils its first Handwritten Collection address in the United States

San Francisco, a city renowned for its commercial hubs and cultural sites, will become the first destination in the United States for one of Accor's newest brands, Handwritten Collection. Owned and operated by San Francisco based Frame Ventures, Hotel Stratford is a charming European-style boutique property set against the backdrop of bustling Union Square on the renowned Powell Street cable car line. The property becomes Accor's third hotel in San Francisco, joining the Fairmont properties atop Nob Hill and at Ghirardelli Square.

U.S. hotel commentary - March 2024

Revenue per available room (RevPAR) fell 2.2% year over year (YoY) in March, marking the first such decline since February 2021. The decrease was due in part to an extra Sunday—the lowest performing day of the week—on the calendar as well as the Easter calendar shift from April in 2023 to March this year. Even with those factors, there were still declines earlier in the month when calendar composition was not an issue, which is reason for caution moving forward. Additionally, Las Vegas continued to be an impactful factor on U.S. performance with 3.1% of the national room supply. Removing Las Vegas from the equation, March RevPAR declined 1.2% YoY.
