Marcus Hotels' VP of HR Steve Martin has been named 2018 HR Award Winner at Milwaukee Business Journal

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized hotel owner and management company, today announced that Steve Martin, vice president of human resources, has been recognized as a 2018 HR Award winner by the Milwaukee Business Journal. The prestigious award salutes southeastern Wisconsin's top HR practitioners who are making a difference in the human resources profession. Martin, who was recognized in the publicly held company category, is responsible for supporting and overseeing human resources issues and strategic initiatives for the company's entire hotel portfolio, which includes 21 hotels across the United States. An 18-year employee of Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Martin was instrumental in re-imagining culture initiatives for the company and recently led the development of a new mission statement, "Serve People, Create Memories, Deliver Exceptional Experiences." Under Martin's leadership, the mission statement was integrated into all facets of hotel operations, and associates across multiple disciplines were reminded that simple customer service gestures make an extraordinary impact on guests. Martin also led efforts to improve the workplace environment for hotel associates through a variety of initiatives to include transforming associate break areas into "family rooms" where associates can dine in a special area that is focused on their enjoyment and relaxation during their shifts. Martin joined The Marcus Corporation in 2000 as corporate human resources director of the company's former Baymont Inns & Suites limited-service lodging division. During his career with the company, he served as the director of human resources for the Hilton Milwaukee City Center and held several human resources roles for The Marcus Corporation, including director of benefits and most recently, assistant corporate director of human resources. Prior to joining The Marcus Corporation, Martin worked for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Radisson Hotels and Embassy Suites. Martin is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and holds its Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) designation as well as the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation from the HR Certification Institute. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in hospitality, restaurant and institution management from Iowa State University.

James-Ryan P. Lundy has been appointed as Executive Chef at Hotel Northland, Autograph Collection

James-Ryan P. Lundy has been named executive chef for the Hotel Northland, Autograph Collection®, a Greenwood Hospitality property. Lundy joins the soon-to-open hotel in Green Bay, Wisconsin, moving from another of the company's luxury properties, the Renaissance® Allentown Hotel, Pennsylvania. While there, Lundy served as executive pastry chef before becoming the executive sous chef. A Pennsylvania native, Lundy's resume includes positions as executive pastry chef and executive chef for caterers Maison Blanc, Allentown; master decorator and store manager for The Flour Shop Bakery, Bethlehem; and managing pastry chef for the Apollo Grill in Bethlehem. Among the accolades while at the Apollo Grill was winning Lehigh Valley Magazine's "Best of the Valley" award for best dessert. Lundy is a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, New York.

John D. Williams has been appointed as General Manager at Hotel Northland, Autograph Collection

Recently appointed General Manager John D. Williams is leading the Hotel Northland, Autograph Collection®, Green Bay, Wisconsin, toward its late fall grand reopening. An industry veteran, Williams is responsible for overseeing the historic renovation and rebranding of the landmark property, as well as launching all operations. Williams brings more than 40 years of hospitality experience in hotel operations and management to the leadership position. Throughout his career, he has managed several 4-Star and 4-Diamond properties. Among them, the Renaissance Vinoy Resort in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he managed the day-to-day operations of the 360-room property. Williams also served as general manager of the 307-room, 4-Diamond Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, named by Conde Nast Traveler as one of the "World's Best Places to Stay." While there, he led the introduction of Blu, the hotel's specialty theme nightclub on the hotel's 23rd floor, making it a destination lounge within the city. Williams also directed operations and business functions for The Skirvin Hotel, a 225-room, 4-Diamond property in Oklahoma City that had been closed and abandoned for 19 years before undergoing a $56 million renovation. Williams oversaw the restoration and reinvention of the hotel, helping it reopen and regain its prominence in downtown Oklahoma City. Most recently, Williams oversaw the successful $10 million renovation project for The Renaissance Waterford, a 196-room, 4-Star, 4-Diamond hotel in Oklahoma City. Williams is a Certified Hotel Administrator®.

Becky Melchi has been appointed as Director of Sales at Wingspread Retreat & Executive Conference Center

BENCHMARK®, a global hospitality company, has announced the appointment of Becky Melchi, CMP, as director of sales for Wingspread Retreat & Executive Conference Center, the landmark Frank Lloyd Wright property located in Racine, Wisconsin. The appointment represents a promotion within the Benchmark organization for Ms. Melchi. Chris Steffich, Benchmark's general manager at Wingspread, made the announcement.

IHG announces new avid hotel in Monona for early 2020

The 98-room, five-story hotel will be located at 900 W Broadway in Monona, a suburb of Madison, with convenient access to the Highway 12 Beltline. The hotel will be close to the University of Madison and located within a mixed use development which will include retail, banking, restaurants and offices. Expected to open in early 2020, the hotel is owned by Kinseth Hospitality Company.

Home2 Suites by Hilton Breaks Ground On New Madison Hotel
