Tourism Sector In Mexico Is Stronger Than The Oil Industry | tourism-review.com

Far from being affected, the tourism sector in Mexico benefited from the volatility and depreciation of the exchange rate, the outcome of the 2016 electoral process in the United States, and the international uncertainty that negatively impacted other sectors of the economy.

Tourism sector in Mexico represents 8.7% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a figure exceeding the contribution of oil industry, which amounts to 7%, according to Teresa Solis Trejo, Deputy Director of Planning and Tourism Policies of the Ministry of Tourism.

"The tourism sector is an industry that, thanks to its size and performance in recent years, is becoming one of the driving forces of the national economy," the federal official said.

Rosewood Hotels announce new Sao Paulo property by architect Jean Nouvel

The Rosewood Hotel Group recently announced plans for a new property to open in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo. The new hotel and residence complex, named Rosewood Sao Paulo, will be housed in an impressively renovated building just off the city's main boulevard Avenida Paulista and will feature 151 guest rooms and 122 residential suites, two restaurants, two swimming pools and a spa centre. Spread over 22 floors, the 100m high tower was originally built in 1904 and was a maternity hospital located in the centre of the 27,000m2 Cidade Matarazzo complex, which contains historic buildings in the middle of Sao Paulo. The skyscraper takes the form of a terraced tower clad in a patchwork of bronzed grids, which are inset and pulled out alternatively to form terraced gardens, a scheme which is intended to emulate the surrounding landscape and provide a physical continuation of parkland and trees in the vicinity. Renowned French architect Jean Nouvel is responsible for the design of the tower and recently released some atmospheric renderings to give guest a taste of what is to come when the project is completed in 2019. His concept for the project is that the park surrounding the building will be seen to be occupying it: "Matarazzo Park will have invaded a tower. Let's make one thing clear. The park tower will be regal and welcoming – and it will be much looked at and envied. In its own distinctive way, it will say: follow me, live in style. Around Matarazzo at first, then a bit farther afield, trees will begin to mount their assault on the city." The hotel will also offer 100,000 sqft of meeting and event spaces, ideal for corporate travelers going to Sao Paulo on business. Residents and guests can avail of the terraces with spectacular views and indulge in the rooftop pool, an oasis in the middle of the city. Interiors will be designed by famed designer Philippe Starck. The property will be a fantastic new addition to Rosewood's 44-strong hotel portfolio. The hotel is part of Cidade Matarazzo, a complex of historic buildings in São Paulo which date back to the early 20th century. Linked to the Paulista Avenue by a pedestrian walkway, this is one of the city's last remaining landmarks.More contact details on Rosewood Sao Paulo and the suppliers and architects involved can be found on the TOPHOTELPROJECTS database.

Hotel Destinations - Mexico 2017

Mexico represents the second largest economy in Latin America, benefitting from a strategic location adjacent to the United States, its largest trading partner. This has helped the nation weather the economic downturn better than its Latin American counterparts. The nation´s economic outlook for the following years, despite being more conservative than last year, is still promising, even with slower projected growth as a result of the potentially negative consequences of the Trump Administration's trade policies with the country.

Colombia’s tourism industry hopes to grow in times of peace

Colombia's tourism industry was almost non-existent for many years while it was in the middle of drug wars and guerilla uprisings. However, that appears to be changing, with a new peace deal recently signed by the government and FARC rebels who has previously been responsible for a lot of violence in the country. Hoteliers and people in the hospitality industry are hoping that this new era of peace will herald an increase in tourism to Colombia, which is famous for its Caribbean coastline and incredible coffee country.

Mexican Tourism Industry Experiencing Its Best Performance Ever | tourism-review.com

Mexico has been able to latch onto the global tourism explosion, and just in time. In this period of great uncertainty, due to the potential impact of the Trump era, the Mexican tourism sector – which already represents 8.5% of the country's GDP – is going through the best period in its entire history, and has become – after the manufacturing sector and remittances – the principal driving force behind the economy. It is, however, starting to show signs of stagnation. The arrival rate of foreign visitors grew by 9% in 2016, reaching 35 million people. The increase in foreign currency entering the country was 10%; and the tourism industry's account balance (dollar inflow versus dollar outflow) improved by 22% thanks to the fact that there were more foreign visitors entering the country than Mexican citizens traveling abroad.
