Millennium Hilton Bangkok has announced its partnership with Rizen Energy, the authorised importer and distributor of BYD electric vehicles, to launch Thailand's first electric limousine service. With the intention to help solve Bangkok's critical pollution problem, the collaborative project aims to reduce 15,000 kilogrammes of carbon in 2019 by encouraging hotel guests to use BYD electric limousines.

Shangri-La “Ride For Hope 3” Raises CNY5,689,029.49 For Ai You Foundation

After 15 exciting and exhilarating days riding through 68 cities across mainland China and Hong Kong, Ride for Hope 3 has finally reached its final destination. A closing ceremony was held at Pudong Shangri-La Hotel, East Shanghai to celebrate the riders' safe and successful journeys and to present the cheque to the beneficiary - China's Ai You Foundation. Through the generous support of all partners and participants, sponsors and media, 5,689,029.49 CNY was raised. This money will go to help at least 150 orphaned and financially disadvantaged children with developmental dislocation diseases.

Foundation stones are laid – Deutsche Hospitality supports the construction of schools in Sri Lanka and Uganda

Deutsche Hospitality has joined forces with the Reiner Meutsch Fly & Help Foundation to assist with the building of schools in developing countries. The aim of the project is to provide young people with access to education. The group recently contributed €60,000 from the monies raised within the scope of its "Deutsche Hospitality 1x1" donation programme, and these funds are currently being used to help construct two schools in Sri Lanka and Uganda. Both schools have now celebrated the formal laying of their foundation stone.

Akaryn Unveils Plan to Become Single-Use Plastic Free Hotel Company by 2020

The Akaryn Hotel Group has unveiled plans to become a single-use plastic free hotel company by 2020. The group's newest opening, akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok, scheduled to open in May 2018, is set to lead the charge in this initiative by not having any single-use plastic in its rooms or food and beverage outlets. "Our eco-friendly approach in Bangkok began by sourcing glass bottles and containers, with a commitment to no single-use plastic used in the restaurants or bars. The hotel will extend the initiative for guests on the go with stylish akyra stainless steel water bottles presented on arrival that can be refilled anytime during their stay," said Anchalika Kijkanakorn, Founder and Managing Director of Akaryn Hotel Group.

PolyU Study Finds Focus on Accessibility Key to Exhibition Market Development

When choosing whether to attend an exhibition, exhibitors will go almost anywhere there is potential for successful business but visitors prefer destinations with good accessibility and an attractive leisure environment, according to Dr Karin Weber of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and her co-researcher Dr Xin Jin. Their recently published research study explores the attractiveness of exhibition destinations from visitor and organiser perspectives, providing practical guidelines that destinations and organisers can use to evaluate and develop destination resources.

Ancient towns and trees transplanted from rural China to Shanghai for new Aman resort

An incredible act of salvation has taken place in China. Historic trees and traditional Chinese constructions were in jeopardy of being erased before Chinese businessman Ma Dadong decided to uproot both the trees and buildings and move them to just outside the prominent city of Shanghai. Dadong has managed to preserve nearly 80% of 10,000 trees that were in danger of being felled to make way for a new reservoir, along with 50 Ming and Qing dynasty houses spread over 30 ancient villages 800km from Shanghai. He has spent over 10 years on this amazing conservation project, and now the salvaged pieces of history will be reimagined to form a new, exclusive resort, the AmanYangyun.
