Harrah's Resort Atlantic City Announces Plans for Its $56 Million Coastal Tower

Harrah's Resort Atlantic City announced today plans for a $56 millionguest room and suite renovation in its Coastal Tower, featuring 507 finely-appointed guest-rooms & suites, to be completed in its entirety by summer 2019. The room and suite upgrades are part of Caesars Entertainment's total investment of over $250 million into its Atlantic City casino-resorts over the last four years, which includes the $125 million Waterfront Conference Center, the revamped Pool After Dark nightclub, and the recent debut of Gordon Ramsay Steak, the seven-Michelin star chef and television personality's first steakhouse concept in the tri-state area.

Ocean Resort Casino to Join The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) and AC Ocean Walk today announced that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a franchise agreement with AC Ocean Walk for the 1,399-room Ocean Resort Casino located at 500 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, N.J. The $3 billion landmark property, which was recently acquired by AC Ocean Walk, will join The Unbound Collection by Hyattbrand, Hyatt"s growing collection of unique and independent stay experiences. The resort will be situated on 20 acres on the famed Atlantic City Boardwalk, and at 710 feet and 60 stories tall, will be the tallest structure in Atlantic City. It is expected to open in summer 2018 and will be operated by AC Ocean Walk.

The grim reality sank in July 14 when Trump Plaza issued layoff notices and targeted Sept. 16 as the date to cease operating as a casino. Perception is reality in tourism, experts say, and the Boardwalk is synonymous with Atlantic City. How will four hulking, empty buildings sit with visitors - especially at night - and will they impede tourism when Atlantic City needs it the most? "When an area goes dark, and there are increased vacancies, it generally sends out more than a subtle message that things are not promising on the horizon," said Don Moliver, dean of the Leon Hess Business School at Monmouth University.
