Anene has never considered being 95% deaf as a barrier to success. Growing up in Cape Town, she completed her studies in Food Service Management at the Hotel School in Granger Bay which led her to finding her passion for the financial side of hospitality. She worked her way up from Office Admin in the Bay Hotel in 2002, via The Westin, The Mount Nelson, BON Hotels, Radisson Blu le Vendome and Park Inn by Radisson Cape Town Newlands all prior to her appointment as Financial Controller at Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel.

Marnie Delaney-Parker has been appointed as Director of Sales and Marketing at Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront, Cape Town

Marnie Delaney-Parker has joined the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront, Cape Town, as Director of Sales and Marketing. Previously with the Cape Grace and Sun International, Marnie has over 20 years’ experience in the tourism and hospitality industry. Her work with Anantara Hotels and Resorts in Thailand saw the group double its portfolio over a four-year period. Whilst based in the UK she specialized in sales and marketing with hotel groups in Italy and Croatia, focusing on all market segments. Since arriving in Cape Town three and a half years ago, she has witnessed a filling out of the traditional ‘quiet season’ of winter, which has been the bugbear of city tourism bodies and operators.

Volker Heiden has been appointed as Vice President at Protea Hotels by Marriott

Marriott International has announced the appointment of Volker Heiden as Vice President of Protea Hotels by Marriott, Marriott International, Middle East & Africa. As Vice President, Volker Heiden will head up the strategic leadership of all the operational functions of the Protea Hotels by Marriott brand throughout Africa, covering eight countries on the continent. Heiden will support Mark Satterfield, Chief Operating Officer Africa & Middle East & Africa Operations Services, who has headed up operations for Protea Hotels by Marriott since 2014 when Marriott International acquired Protea Hotels. Satterfield will continue to lead all operational activities for Marriott International across the Middle East & Africa. A 20-year veteran of Marriott International, Heiden relocates to the Marriott International Cape Town office, from his role as Regional Vice President Finance for the Caribbean and Latin America for Marriott. He began his career with Hyatt International before joining Marriott International in1997. Heiden gained experience in a number of different regions of the world, as well as across numerous hospitality brands. His focus has been on improving business processes with a view to maximising revenue and driving incremental value for Marriott’s owners and hotels.

Nicholas Solomon has been appointed as Resort Manager at One&Only Cape Town

The idiom ‘Hit a Home Run’ couldn’t be more apt for Cape Town born Nicholas Solomon, One&Only Cape Town’s new Resort Manager. Having travelled and worked extensively in Ireland, USA and Seychelles since finishing his hotel school studies at Cape Town Hotel School some eleven years ago, Nick has recently settled in the Mother City and One&Only Cape Town couldn’t be more delighted with his decision. His experience as General Manager of North Island in the Seychelles and, before that, as Deputy General Manager at The Royal Portfolio’s La Residence, both afforded Nick “incredible experience with their own unique demands”.

Clinton Arnot has been appointed as Director, Distribution Strategy Middle East & Africa at Marriott International

Marriott International has announced the appointment of Clinton Arnot to the role of Director, Distribution Strategy Middle East & Africa, with effect from 1 October 2015. Over the past 13 years, Clinton Arnot filled a number of positions in Protea Hotels, a member of Marriott International, the hotel group which acquired Protea Hotels last year. During that period, Arnot gained extensive experience in the Sales and Distribution disciplines, serving as the Head of Online Distribution for Protea Hotels for the past 7 years. He has a Diploma in Hotel Management, Marketing, from City & Guilds.
