After a near four-year stint as General Manager of the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi in Malaysia, Alastair McAlpine is trading the tropical island exoticism for some classical Chinese elegance as he is newly appointed General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou at West Lake, a UNESCO-recognised region.Alastair graduated in Hotel Management from the Scottish Hotel School at Strathclyde University in 1993. He started his Four Seasons journey at the former Regent Hong Kong in 1996, first as a Management Trainee and then as Assistant Director of Food and Beverage. This was followed by four postings as Food and Beverage Director in the Maldives, Tokyo, Washington DC and New York. Alastair was the opening Resort Manager at Lanai, Hawaii from July 2005 to June 2008, before his first General Manager posting in the Maldives at Kuda Huraa. Alastair moved to the Seychelles as General Manager in November 2009, and then to Langkawi in late 2011. Hangzhou will be Alastair’s tenth Four Seasons property.
Alibaba Group (NYSE:BABA) announced that Taobao (China) Software Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Alibaba Group, has agreed to invest RMB2.81 billion in Beijing Shiji Information Technology Co. Ltd (Shiji Information) (Shenzhen Stock Exchange stock code: 002153), a China-based hotel information technology provider, in return for a 15% stake. After completion of the transaction, Alibaba Group will have one board seat on the board of directors of Shiji Information. The investment is subject to customary closing conditions. As part of the strategic investment, Alibaba Group and Shiji Information will work together to connect the systems of Taobao Travel vertical with Shiji Information's systems, with the aim to continue to strengthen Alibaba Group's service capability in the online travel market.

Hilton Hotels Corporation (Hilton) has signed through its subsidiary an agreement to manage the Hilton Hangzhou Qianjiang, China. Opening in the first quarter of 2014, the 300-room hotel will be the first Hilton hotel in Hangzhou. The hotel will be owned by Zhejiang Huafon Real Estate Development Co. Ltd – a joint venture including Huafon Group Co. Ltd., Dicara Co. Ltd., and Zhejiang Zheshang Co., Ltd.
