Morgans Hotel Group to Sell Its London Hotels

Morgans Hotel Group Co. (NASDAQ: MHGC) ("MHG" or the "Company"), the operator and 50% owner of the London joint venture that owns Sanderson and St Martins Lane, today announced that the joint venture partners have entered into a definitive agreement to sell the Sanderson and St Martins Lane hotels for 192 million pounds Sterling, or approximately $295 million, to Capital Hill Hotels Limited, a Middle Eastern investor with other global hotel holdings. The sales price for the two hotels represents a value of approximately 542,000 pounds, or $832,000, per room.

Andrew Gill has been appointed as Interim Chief Executive Officer at Jupiter Hotels Limited

Jupiter Hotels Limited today announced the appointment of Andrew Gill as Interim Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect. Andrew Gill joins from Intercontinental Hotels Group where he spent 13 years working in senior roles in the UK and in Continental Europe. Latterly he was Vice President Development, Europe with responsibility for expanding IHG’s brands across Europe. In addition to a deep understanding of the hotel industry his role demanded strong leadership and change management skills. Andrew is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Katerina Esakova has been appointed as Director of Sales at The Stafford London

On the heels of the completion of a more than £6 million renovation and the opening of The Lyttelton, The Stafford London by Kempinski is experiencing change within their executive team as well. Katerina Esakova has been appointed as Director of Sales, effectively immediately. Esakova brings almost a decade of hotel sales and business development experience within the travel and luxury hospitality sectors to The Stafford. She has lead sales and marketing teams at some of the top hotels in Europe including Park Hyatt Moscow. Most recently, Esakova served at Acting Assistant Director of Sales/Business Development Manager at The Langham, London (a member of Leading Hotels of the World.)

John Melchior has been appointed as GBTA Foundation’s European Regional Development Director at The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA)

The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA)—the voice of the global business travel industry—is pleased to announce that John Melchior, managing director of JME Consultancy Enterprises Ltd., has been appointed GBTA Foundation’s new European Regional Development Director. Mr. Melchior will be based in the United Kingdom. Mr. Melchior will be responsible for planning, managing and advancing the strategic initiatives of the Foundation by creating corporate partnerships for education and research initiatives throughout Europe. Neal Jones has been named Vice President Global Sales Intermediaries and Europe at Marriott International

Jones’ new responsibilities include providing strategic leadership to global intermediary segments such as travel management companies, travel agencies, group intermediaries, wholesalers, group tour operators and consortia. He will continue to provide strategic oversight to Marriott’s global sales operations located throughout Europe.

The problem with London hotels in the past wasn’t always that the food was unexciting; quite a few hotels had extremely good chefs working for them. Fiona Jeffery, founder and chairman, Just a Drop, the international water-aid charity, announced the appointment of Alfred Pisani, founder and group chairman, Corinthia Hotels, as a corporate patron. Corinthia Hotels, the five-star hotel collection, will also formally adopt Just a Drop as its official charity. Other Just a Drop patrons include Baroness Joyce Anelay of St. Johns, Lord Digby-Jones as well as television presenters Stephen Sackur and Alastair Stewart.
