Debuting May 1, 2021 after a landmark transformation, Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Resort is pleased to announce the appointment of Abby Murtagh as general manager. A renowned hotelier, Murtagh will usher in the groundbreaking reimagination of the sprawling 39-acre Frank Lloyd Wright inspired desert gem. As general manager, Murtagh will oversee general operations and development of the next chapter in the legendary resort's history. She holds over two decades of executive leadership experience within heritage lifestyle, hotel and entertainment brands including Hilton Hotels & Resorts, The New York Palace, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and Hershey Entertainment Resorts. As executive director at The New York Palace, she oversaw a $35 million food and beverage renovation of seven onsite restaurants and bars. She then went on to become the resident manager at the Waldorf Astoria New York where she managed all guest room operations and launched a New York Times-reviewed dining concept. Prior to joining Arizona Biltmore, Murtagh served as general manager of the Hilton Salt Lake City Center where she successfully led the downtown convention hotel through its highest levels of profit in 2019 and remained open through the pandemic.
The 199-room, 13-floor AC Hotel by Marriott that opens today at Arizona Center in Phoenix is a double first - it's the first upscale select service boutique hotel in the city's downtown, and it's also the first joint venture between Dallas-based NewcrestImage and Las Vegas-based LaPour Partners.
During the Great Recession, Metro Phoenix's[1] occupancy fell nearly 16 points from its pre-recession peak of 68.2% in 2006 to 52.4% in 2009. However, occupancy fell from the 2019 peak of 70.5% to 47.0%[2] in 2020, reflecting roughly a 24-point correction. Although average daily rate (ADR) declined 19% from a pre-recession peak of $124.80 in 2008 to a low of $100.94 in 2010, ADR only fell 14% in 2020, from $132.64 in 2019 to $114.44 in 2020.
