Thompson Toronto to Undergo Transformation to 1 Hotel Toronto Set to Debut Summer 2020

Barry Sternlicht, 1 Hotels Founder and CEO & Chairman of Starwood Capital Group, announced plans today for its newest property, 1 Hotel Toronto, inspired by Canada'snatural beauty, the vibrant character of King Street West and the Torontomarketplace. The hotel is being developed in partnership with Mohari Hospitality, a global real estate investment company and owner of the building which is currently operated as the Thompson Toronto. The downtown property will undergo an extensive transformation into a relaxing luxury sustainable 1 retreat.

Viviana Quesada has been appointed as Spa Director at Four Seasons Hotel Toronto

Quesada began her career with the company in 2005 when she joined the team at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. With her attention to detail and experience working as a physiotherapist, Quesada soon joined the inaugural class of a management training program for Four Seasons spas in 2007. She spent the year travelling to numerous properties learning in-depth knowledge of spa management. An obvious fit for the job, Quesada then moved to Istanbul where she took on the role of Spa Director at the property along the Bosphorus. In 2015, she advanced once again in Punta Mita, Mexico where she was then named Senior Spa Director for the Americas.

Heather McCrory has been appointed as CEO, North & Central America at Accor

Accor has appointed Heather McCrory as CEO, North & Central America. McCrory will also serve as a member of the group's executive committee. In her new position, McCrory will have strategic oversight for more than 115 hotels and more than 28,000 employees across North and Central America. Accor brands and partnerships in the region include Fairmont, Sofitel, Delano, SLS, Banyan Tree, Pullman, Swissôtel, 21c Museum Hotels - MGallery Hotel Collection, Mondrian, Hyde, Novotel, Mama Shelter, ibis and ibis Styles. A seasoned professional with an extensive hospitality background spanning more than 30 years, McCrory most recently served as EVP of operations, North & Central America region for Accor, a position which gave her wide-ranging oversight of hotel operations, technology, design and technical services, spa, retail, rooms, food & beverage, and integrations and openings, with a strong focus on driving operational excellence in key areas of employee and guest engagement, service culture, revenue, GOP margins and owner relations. McCrory also serves as the executive sponsor for North & Central America for RiiSE, Accor's international network to promote diversity. In 2018, she chaired the first annual Women on the RiiSE Forum, bringing together more than 60 women in leadership from throughout the region for professional and personal development, inspiration, motivation and networking. An active leader in the hospitality industry, McCrory is the past chair of Tourism Toronto, past vice chair of the board of directors for the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC), as well as a past board member of the Ontario Breast Cancer Association. McCrory is based in the Accor regional office in Toronto.

Julie Garton has been appointed as Wine Director at Four Seasons Hotel Toronto

Garton found her home in hospitality working in restaurants as she travelled extensively around the world. A native of Guelph, Ontario, she set down roots in Toronto as sommelier and manager of a popular gastropub in the heart of Yorkville, curating wine lists for all three of its sister pubs. Garton remains dedicated to her pursuit of wine knowledge, recently passing the gruelling Advanced Exam through the Court of Master Sommeliers in 2019. As she makes moves to expand the wine program at the Hotel and delight guests of Café Boulud and d|bar by Chef Daniel Boulud, she is also eager to complete the CMS Master Sommelier Exam, deemed one of the most challenging exams in the world.

Nicholas Trosien has been appointed as Chef de Cuisine at Four Seasons Hotel Toronto

Trosien brings a creative touch, Four Seasons-style management and leadership chops, and culinary worldliness nurtured through assignments in Asia and the Middle East to his new position. Originally from Livonia, Michigan, Trosien began working his way up the line at 15 years old, before honing his skills at Le Cordon Bleu Miami and going on to work for a famous James Beard award-winning chef in multiple restaurants. As a young, talented chef in the city, he caught the attention of both the Food & Beverage Director and Hotel Manager of Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach and soon after landed his first Four Seasons appointment there as a Sous Chef in 2012. A natural fit, Trosien has been with the company ever since, bringing his culinary skills to Singapore and Dubai before landing in Toronto. He's the type of chef whose passion in the kitchen is both in the food and the people. 

Hotel Equities Appointed As Management Firm For The Westin Prince Toronto

Today, Atlanta-based hotel owner, operator and developer, Hotel Equities (HE), announced they have been selected as the management firm for the 394-room Westin Prince Toronto. The luxury resort-style hotel is located at 900 York Mills Road in North York and offers 28,000 square feet of versatile event space. The ownership group has invested in a major renovation including guest rooms and public space. The renovations are expected to be completed in the summer of 2019.

RIU Plans 2021 Opening of Flagship 350-Room Riu Plaza in Toronto, Canada

RIU Hotels & Resorts has announced the construction of a hotel in its Riu Plaza urban line, in Toronto, the largest city in Canada and the cultural, business and financial centre of the country. The Spanish company intends to invest around 100 million dollars in the project, that will establish the first RIU hotel in Canada and will add continuity to the hotel company's plan to expand into the world's great cities.

Radisson Hotel Group Announces Intent To Open Its First Radisson Blu In Canada

Radisson Hotel Group today revealed the owners of Radisson Admiral Hotel Toronto-Harbourfront have announced their intent to convert the hotel into a Radisson Blu, making this the company's first upper upscale hotel introduction in Canada. The owners are planning to update the hotel's public spaces, guest rooms, food and beverage offerings and its meeting space to bring its unique Radisson Blu brand to life. The hotel's new look will feature a stylish and contemporary design, while maintaining its personalized service catering to the needs of each guest. The hotel is anticipated to open as a Radisson Blu in June 2019.

Chad Merced has been appointed as Director of Rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Toronto

Having recently celebrated a decade with the company, Merced is a Four Seasons veteran who has held various positions within the rooms division. All of this experience led to his promotion as Director of Guest Services at Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver and then on to Assistant Director of Rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Denver. Merced has also spent time at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts corporate office as operations lead worldwide, working with the guest recognition team, as well as assisting with task force opportunities in New York and Chicago.

Salar Alemi has been appointed as Director of Marketing at Four Seasons Hotel Toronto

Although new to Four Seasons, Alemi is no stranger to the world of hospitality. He joins the team from the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, where he spent several years climbing the ranks with a sharp focus in sales. His many notable roles there included senior sales manager, director of corporate sales, director of sales, and finally culminating with his current role as Director of Marketing.
