Michael Thomas re-joins AccorHotels as General Manager of Pullman and Mercure Melbourne Albert Park. Michael first joined AccorHotels as the acting General Manager of Novotel Lotus Bangkok and went on to manage Sofitel Shanghai, Sofitel Raja Orchid Thailand, and was the Executive General Manager of Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square and Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi. Michael was a recipient of the prestigious Accor Bernache award in 2005.

Hyatt Announces Plans for Hyatt Centric Melbourne

Hyatt Hotels Corporation  announced today that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management agreement with Little Projects for a Hyatt Centric hotel in Melbourne, Australia. Hyatt Centric Melbourne will boast a prime location on Downie Street, providing a launch pad for guests looking to explore everything Melbourne has to offer. The hotel will also join 20 Hyatt Centric brand hotels worldwide and soon-to-open hotels in Santiago, Chile and Lima, Peru.

Amy Moylan has been appointed as General Manager at The Chen

Art Series Hotel Group have announced Amy Moylan as General Manager of The Chen, the eighth art inspired hotel for the Group. Amy will lead The Chen’s opening team after seven and a half years of delivering art inspired experiences for guests across the Group’s Victorian properties.Amy’s most recent role was Hotel Manager at The Schaller Studio in Bendigo, where she took a “tree change” from Melbourne to take up the position in December 2014. Prior to this, Amy was pivotal in the opening of The Blackman in 2009 before taking the step to lead the front office team at The Olsen for several years, prior to being promoted to her first General Manager appointment at The Cullen in 2014.

Shovels Hit The Ground At Peppers Southbank

Construction on Peppers Southbank, a new $60 million hotel in Melbourne"s vibrant arts and entertainment district, is now underway following a ground-breaking ceremony late last week. Operated by Mantra Group, the 162-room hotel will be the Group"s eleventh property in Melbourne"s CBD. Mantra Group Regional General Manager Doug Flavell said Peppers Southbank will cater to the strong demand for quality short-term accommodation in Melbourne"s inner-ring.  Set to open its doors in early 2019, Peppers Southbank is prominently located on the corner of Clarendon and Haig Streets and will feature 162 full-service hotel rooms across 32 levels, along with a range of amenities including a restaurant and bar, meeting room and gymnasium. The sustainable building will achieve a 5-star energy rating, with the windows designed to meet higher-than-average solar heat gain co-efficient levels, achieving a 6-star NATHERS energy rating.

Shangri-La Confirmed for Planned Luxury Melbourne CBD Development

S P Setia Berhad Group, the premier Malaysian property developer, and Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, the leading Asia-based luxury hotel group, today announced Shangri-La as the official hotel operator for the planned landmark luxury development in Melbourne"s CBD. Located at 308 Exhibition Street, the Cox and Fender Katsalidis-designed two-tower development overlooking Melbourne"s World Heritage-listed Carlton Gardens is currently under consideration for planning approval.
