The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) presented the Open Letter on Travel and Tourism to the Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat. The Open Letter outlines tourism's value as one of the world's largest generators of jobs and a powerful driver of socio-economic growth and sustainable development. Hard Rock International announces plans to open its third European resort, following debuts in Ibiza and Tenerife. Projected to open in 2020, the seafront Hard Rock Hotel Malta will feature 370 rooms, including 110 suites offering balcony views. Mr Hormigo began his career with Kempinski 15 years ago as Credit Controller at Kempinski Hotel Bahia Estepona , followed by an assignment at Kempinski Hotel Giardino di Costanza Sicily where he was appointed General Manager, as well as Director of Finance. He was then transferred to China in January 2013, where he played a crucial role as Hotel Manager at the Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai, where his expertise ensured a smooth operational take-over. Returning to Europe, Mr Hormigo supported the Kempinski Hotel Nikolskaya in Moscow as Hotel Manager during the soft-opening period before taking over the helm of the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz. Multi-lingual, mastering English and Italian in addition to his Spanish mother-tongue, Mr Hormigo holds a Global MBA from IE Business School and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Malaga.

Mr. Mullan comes to Malta from the Hilton Barbados Resort where he was General Manager for the past four years. Matthew has been with Hilton Worldwide for more than twenty five years having joined the company as a trainee back in 1988, a career that has taken him to various parts of the United Kingdom, Egypt, Barbados and now Malta. He relocates to Hilton Malta with his wife Audrey and thirteen year old son Ciaran. Matthew Mullan replaces Hilton Malta's long-standing General Manager Mr. Clement Hassid, who has retired after almost nine years at Hilton Malta and more than 47 years of service in the hospitality industry.
Corinthia Hotels announced that the first recipients of the Alfred Pisani Corinthia Hotels Scholarship, Genevieve Arnold and Phillip Rogers – students in the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management undergraduate program – noted the role the scholarship played in helping them achieve their academic and career goals as they look forward to graduation.
