Mike Jorgensen has been named Managing Director at Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport

Omni Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Jorgensen as managing director of Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport, Omni's upcoming development slated to open in early 2021. With more than 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry and an unmatched understanding of the Boston Seaport, Jorgensen will be instrumental in a successful opening for the 1,054-room Omni property.Prior to joining the Omni family, Jorgensen has occupied roles at large-scale hospitality brands such as Hyatt, Four Seasons, Starwood and Marriott. First, as general manager of the Westin Copley in the Back Bay and most recently as general manager at the Westin Boston Waterfront. Jorgensen is known for developing talent and a strong focus on topline revenue, and in 2013, he was named the Mass Lodging Association General Manager of the Year. Jorgensen is originally from Enfield, Connecticut and graduated from the University of New Haven with a bachelor's degree in hotel administration. He and his wife, Wendy, have two college-aged children, Spencer and Alexandra, as well as a Portuguese Water Dog named Riley.

Highgate Announces Plans For A New Luxury Hotel, The Newbury Boston

Leora Halpern Lanz has been named Chair of the School's Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) at Boston University School of Hospitality Administration

Leora Halpern Lanz, ISHC, who has for the last four years also served as Marketing Lecturer at the undergraduate and graduate levels, teaching the Advanced Strategic Marketing and Digital Marketing Classes for the School of Hospitality, will oversee the recruitment of students, offerings of programs and concentrations, and industry outreach, among other MMH responsibilities. Additionally, she is the Coordinating Chair of the School of Hospitality's Leadership Summit, an event which connects the graduate and undergraduate student bodies with regional and national industry executives to learn from among the (female) C-Suite and Senior Level directors of lodging, restaurants, meeting planning and tourism.

CitizenM checks into Boston

CitizenM has landed above Boston's North Station. The 272-room CitizenM hotel opened on Aug. 5 in Boston's North End, locally known as "Little Italy." CitizenM Boston North Station was built in collaboration with design firm concrete Amsterdam and Gensler as the executive architect firm. The hotel has a living room open to the public, with books, art, designer furniture and designated working areas; an outdoor terrace; CollectionM retail space; CanteenM dining area with 24/7 grab-and-go food and drinks; and SocietyM, six meeting rooms open to the public.

Roger Thomas-designed Encore Boston Harbor now open

The resort has a 210,000-square-foot casino; 15 dining and lounge venues; 671 guestrooms and suites including New England's largest standard hotel rooms; 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space; a spa; and a four-season, six-acre Harborwalk, featuring pedestrian and bike paths, picnic park, gazebo, viewing decks, waterfront dining and green space with floral displays. The resort bridges the harbor between Everett and Boston with a water transportation system.
