STR: Caribbean/Mexico hotel pipeline for February 2017

STR's February 2017 Pipeline Report shows 35,772 rooms in 203 hotel projects Under Contract in the Caribbean/Mexico region. The total represents a 12.2% increase in rooms Under Contract compared with February 2016.Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.The region reported 13,943 rooms in 80 projects In Construction for the month. Based on number of rooms, that is a 3.1% decrease in year-over- year comparisons. Two countries in the region reported more than 1,000 rooms In Construction:

Hilton Expands Presence In Colombia With Signing Of Hilton Medellin

Hilton (NYSE: HLT) and Constructora Colpatria today announced the signing of a franchise license agreement to open Hilton Medellin, bringing the company's flagship brand to Colombia's second largest city. The multi-million project will be one of the largest real estate investments in Colombia this year. The 25-story, 206-room new-build development is planned to open in Q2 2019.

The total represents a 4.4% increase in rooms Under Contract compared with January 2016.Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.The region reported 12,818 rooms in 81 projects In Construction for the month. Based on number of rooms, that is a 9.4% decrease in year-over-year comparisons. Among the region's key markets, Central Mexico (4,741 rooms in 36 projects) reported the largest number of rooms In Construction.

Hyatt Announces Plans for First Hyatt Place Hotel in Aruba

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announced that Hyatt has entered into a management agreement with Pelca Development V.B.A. for a Hyatt Place hotel within the Aruba Airport Business Center in Oranjestad, Aruba. The 116-room hotel will be the first Hyatt Place hotel in Aruba, adjacent to the Reina Beatrix International Airport (AUA), and will provide guests with a relaxing and uncomplicated place to pause before beginning the next leg of their journey.

New development by Sheraton soars over Cartagena’s coast

Sheraton adds to its list of Colombian hotels with a new opening set for March 2017. Sheraton Cartagena is a 5-star, new build development with a key count of 256 and will be located on a narrow finger of land jutting out from the city's peninsula towards the Isla de Tierra Bomba. Cartagena, located on Colombia's Caribbean coast, is the country's fifth largest city and has been a popular tourist haunt for many decades. IHG Breaks Ground on Two New-Build Staybridge Suites® Hotels in Guanajuato, Mexico

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world's leading hotel companies, and the largest global hotel company in Mexico, today announces the groundbreaking on two new-build 120-room Staybridge Suites® hotels in the Mexican cities of Irapuato and Silao.
