Hilton Worldwide has expanded its South African footprint with the signing of an agreement for the 137-room Hilton Cape Town. Scheduled to open in April 2011, the hotel is situated in the Cape Town CBD, ideally located for easy access to Table Mountain, Camps Bay, the Cape Town International Convention Centre and the V&A Waterfront.
Sol Meliá has reached an agreement with The Resort Group PLC to manage a new 5-Star Hotel on the Island of Sal, Cape Verde, under the MELIÁ brand, its most international brand. The future Meliá LLana Resort & Spa will be fully operational in 2014. With this new hotel, Sol Meliá will already be managing three resorts in Cape Verde, an archipelago of 10 tropical islands in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,000 km south of the Canary Islands and 450 km west of Senegal.
The Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) has joined forces with UK-based Bench Events, to organise and convene the annual Hospitality Investment Conference Africa (HICA) from 2011 onwards. As part of the partnership agreement, the event will be renamed the Hotel Investment Conference Africa.

The Canadian hotel industry reported positive results in the three key performance measurements during the week of 11-17 July 2010, according to data released by STR. In year-over-year measurements, the Canadian hotel industry’s occupancy increased 6.6 percent to 72.8 percent. Average daily rate ended the week up 3.1 percent to CAD$132.42. Revenue per available room for the week rose 9.9 percent to CAD$96.39.
