Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) today announced the signing of a Non-Exclusive Master Agreement with D.I.H (Cyprus) Limited (an affiliate of Duet India Hotels Ltd.) and JHM Interstate Hotels India Pvt. Ltd. The agreement was signed concurrently with the execution of the agreement for the Four Points by Sheraton Pune, Nagar Road. The Non-Exclusive Master Agreement also covers the Four Points by Sheraton Jaipur City Square which opened in October 2009 and Four Points by Sheraton Visakhapatnam. Four Points by Sheraton Pune, Nagar Road and Four Points by Sheraton Visakhapatnam are both targeted to open in October 2010.

The general manager of Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace and Tower hotel, Karambir Singh Kang, still works at the place where his wife and two children were killed. Neeti Kang, 40, Uday, 12, and five-year-old Samar were among the 31 people who died at the luxury seafront hotel after Islamist militants stormed the building on November 26 last year and began shooting. Kang, 41, who has worked for the Indian Hotels Co. American Express Business Travel announced today the findings of two surveys which offered separate yet similar predictions on the health and future of business travel heading into 2010. The company surveyed its Global Business Partnership (GBP) clients, its largest global clients, as well as 180 client organizations based across Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou in China through its annual China Business Travel Survey (The Barometer). The findings indicate that clients expect China will lead business travel recovery. Further, investment by global companies and local companies in China should increase over the next 12 months. The results of the company’s GBP survey and Barometer were revealed during the fifth annual American Express China Business Travel Forum (CBTF) held in Shanghai this week.

Hotels will get star ratings only if they are hospitable for disabled persons and have adequate arrangement for safety and security of guests, said a tourism ministry statement. Until now, hotels provided these facilities on voluntary basis. All star-rated hotels across the country will have to meet the new requirements by September next year, said the statement. Hotels in India are rated between one-star and fivestar deluxe on the basis of facilities they offer to the guests.
The suicide bombers who killed nine people including themselves in two luxury Jakarta hotels were challenged by staff over their suspicious behavior minutes before detonating their devices, a security official said today. The JW Marriott bomber exited an elevator wearing a backpack on his chest and pulling a luggage trolley and told guards he was delivering a case to his boss, said Alan Orlob, global head of security for Marriott International Inc.
