Starwood Hotels & Resorts Sells Hotel Imperial, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Vienna

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) today announced that it has closed on the sale of Hotel Imperial, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Vienna to Al Habtoor Investment - the investment arm of UAE conglomerate Al Habtoor Group for $78.8 million USD. As part of the transaction, all rooms and suites of the iconic hotel will be renovated over the next four years. Hotel Imperial will continue to operate as part of The Luxury Collection brand under a new long-term management agreement.

Peter Knoll has been appointed as General Manager at Palais Hansen Kempinski

A new general manager will lead Palais Hansen Kempinski – Peter Knoll will take over the management of the five-star hotel located on the Schottenring, Vienna. He is successor to Markus Lueck, who led the hotel from October 2013. He leaves Palais Hansen after having had the most successful month since the opening in March 2013 in order to meet new challenges.

Eurovision 2015: Hotel Prices up 41%; Travel Interest up 58%

With the semi-finals underway and the final on Saturday, travellers are flocking to Vienna for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. Hotel comparison website trivago.co.uk found that travel interest from the UK is up 58 per cent compared to last year. Hotel prices are up by an average of 41 per cent, peaking at £158 the night before the final. The top visiting countries (besides Austria) are Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Finland. Norwegians are willing to pay the most for their hotel room (£133 per night), while Serbians searched for the cheapest rooms (£62 per night).

Jean-Paul Dantil has been appointed as General Manager at Ritz Carlton Vienna

As of 1st April, Jean-Paul Dantil will be the new General Manager of the Ritz Carlton Vienna. Jean-Paul joins us from the famous boutique hotel Das Stue in Berlin. Not only did Jean-Paul open the hotel but also under his leadership won numerous awards, including Conde Nast Hot List, Travel and Leisure A List and was recently voted 6th most luxurious hotel in Germany by Tripadvisor. The hotel also houses Cinco by Paco Perez which was awarded a Michelin Star after 10 months of opening. Jean-Paul Graduated from the Centre International de Glion. He started his career with Hyatt International as a Corporate management trainee in Saipan which was followed by 4 years working for Como Hotels and Resorts at Parrot Cay and the Metropolitan in London. This was followed by several years in Dubai being partner of Chris Garrod Partnership and hospitality procurement company as well as Direct Hotel Supplies. His love for the industry brought him back and prior to Das Stue was the Managing Director of the Puro group based in Palma de Mallorca.

First Melia Hotel to Open in Austria
